RCN Corporation Ripoff Guilty of Credit Card Fraud Herndon Virginia
Well it's a shame I've had to come here, but without ANY conctact/help/support from RCN corporation, I have no other choice. So here it is:
On April 17th, 2006 my credit/debit card information was stolen via an intenet transaction. Not quite sure how this happened, or what specific transaction it was, but someone (hacker) got my card info and managed to run up $683.00 of fraudulent charges. The charges were made to pornographic websites, WOWmine.com, and the offender even paid for his monthly internet bill, using my credit card. How clever......Actually, it was clever, because no one has bothered to assist me with this situation. I will say, my bank completely refunded my charges, with no questions asked......So why am I here?
I'm here because I obtained receipts of the fraudulent charges. In that receipt, was the culprit's IP address. So I downloaded a "who is" software and managed to trace this person's IP back to his/her city & state. Also, the "who is" search gave me the name of the internet provider, for which this person used to execute their credit card theft. The search results state to call the ISP for further investigation and they will be able to track the IP to a esidential address. By the way, this persons IP address is 207.172.114.209 if anyone wants to track this criminal.
This person (for lack of a better word) lives in Darby, Pa. However, they get their internet from the RCN Corporation out of Herndon, Virginia. Since April 17th, 2006, I have written RCN Corporation 8 different times and sent to this email address (abuse@rcn.com). In the emails that I've sent, I attached copies of all the fraudulent charges and also specified the person's IP address, as well as, the city & state for which they reside. I've yet to receive a reply, phone call or even a worthy response advising that action will be taken.
I've also called the RCN Corporation on 3 different occassions in hopes of tracking this criminal down. I spoke to one lady, Barbara, who was very nice. Unfortunately, her kindness didn't serve any purpose, other than, telling me she couldn't help me at all and that matters of this magnitude, must be emailed to abuse@rcn.com. We all know by now, this address is worthless. However, this is the ONLY way, in which victims are allowed to file identity theft complaints. There is NO phone number for their identity theft or intenet fraud division. Ridiculous? YES!
All in all, I'm not looking to gain anything, except, I want this criminal to be stopped. You'd think the RCN Corp. would want to track down thiefs who use their internet service to perform criminal activities. Instead, they completely ignore victims in search of support or justice for that matter.
Lastly, I've tried to contact my local authorities, as well as, the Internet Crime Division.....but to no avail, I haven't received a response from them either. My local police dept. said they didn't have an internet crime division and they would not be traveling to Darby, PA for a measly $600 bucks. Honestly, I can understand the apathy of the local authorities; and I can (almost) justify the apathy displayed by the Internet Crime Division, considering they have billions of dollars to track down each year.
However, there is NO EXCUSE for the lack of support on RCN's behalf. They are allowing criminals to use their internet for illegal purposes. I hope someone at RCN comes across this report........If not, maybe they'll see one of my other reports. Did I mention, I'm just getting started? I plan to file reports with every bad business bureau I can find through google. We'll see if their "abuse" team has any competency for rebuttals.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the additional info. However, I'm not really looking for the ISP to give me that person's info. I just want the RCN Corporation to take some sort of action, whether they turn this person in or ban them from using their services. Any action will be welcomed.
Thanks again,
Mike

You will need a warrant to get information

The internet service provider is not going to give YOU the personal information of one of their customers without a court order. NO ISP will give out that information to just anyone.
As stupid as it is, that would be an invasion of their privacy.
