Reader Service (Harlequin Reader Service) Send unwanted materials / Denial of return postage. Buffalo New York
Reader Services, of Buffalo, NY, sent unordered books charging $57. Their phone agent claimed books were an online order. I was in a rehab center after a fall, did not initally see a mail order form and thus did not order any books. Books were returned and account cancelled.
The brochure/order form stated if you did not want books, you had to respond by the date on the card (March 11). Books were sent before that date, as I returned them on March 3. This is a similar activity to Publisher's Clearing House, receiving goods not ordered.
The form also clearly has printed that Reader Services will pay for return postage. I requested a return label, and the phone agent denied that they pay for postage, even though it is stated on their printed material.
The amount of money is insignificant, but the business practice by this company is wrong.
