Readers Digest Sent unordered book, then billed me for $31.23 with statement "Your bill is now past due." Prescott, Arizona
Received a free unordered book from Readers Digest. A month or so later received a PAST DUE bill for $31.23, and asking, "Have you overlooked the payment you owe us?"

How to end this practise is also simple, Send a note thanking them for the "FREE BOOK" and if they'd like to send more you'd appreciate it.
You see, they can't do that legaly, to send something unordered, and ask for payment s Highly Illegal AND THEY KNOW IT, BUT HOPE YOU DON'T so they're screwed when you discover it.
