Complaint Review: Red Star World Wear

It's easy to avoid being charged monthly for extra sunglasses. Just uncheck the box when making your first order, or go to "my account" at any time and uncheck that option.

When buying anything online, make sure you thoroughly read and understand anything to which you are agreeing! It may seem like you can't wait ONE MORE SECOND to buy those massively discounted numchucks from that seedy website or whatever, just make sure to uncheck the box that will include a mail-order bride for only $999.99 more.

Anything that automatically signs you up for additional products to be billed directly to your credit card periodically until you cancel it, is, by its very nature, a scam..."opt-out" option or not.  Just because Red Star Worldwear had a couple of their shills come on here and defend that policy does not make it acceptable.  The very point of such a policy is to hope you do not see that "opt out" option, or the fine print, and commit more of your money to their scam.  I would really like to know who needs two new pairs of sunglasses every few months...unless the sunglasses are cheap junk and only last a few months before needing replacement.  This is an obvious scam, designed to catch people who do see the "opt-out" box.  If they offered a quality product, they would not need to use tricks like this.

When entering your order information, at the bottom of the page is the option to "opt out" of receiving monthly additional pairs of sunglasses, where it is clearly explained that it will be charged to your card. This is the most consistent complaint I've read when researching redstar, so we went ahead with our order from them since it's just a user error, not a scam. We recieved a $500 gift card and purchased $500 worth of glasses, paid about $80 in shipping. Whether its really for shipping or just the actual worth of the glasses, I don't know. But the glasses fit, dont fall off my head and are polarized.

The option to not receive more glasses was there, you just didn't see it. The Red Star company offers are not a rip off. Not a scam. You just need to read the fine print, just like every other online purchase.

Redstarworldwear provides an opt-out box for the recurring charges on the review page where you enter your credit card info.  This box defaults to be checked and says YES, send me two pairs of glasses every two months for $9.90 each to be charged automatically.  Unchecking the box should prevent the recurring charges.
