I rented two DVDs, "Gangster Squad" and "Promised Land," on May 28, 2013 from a Wal Mart.  However, my online bank statement showed that Redbox charged me $55.34 on June 13, 2013.  I phoned Redbox and asked the representative why I was charged so much.

She told me that on May 22, 2013, I rented "Gangster Squad" and "Texas Chainsaw" and never returned them.  I explained that I rented "Gangster Squad" with "Promised Land" on the later date and returned them the next day.  Also, I did not rent "Texas Chainsaw" because I don't like dead teenager movies.  The rep then said she would check to see if the charges could be removed and put me on hold.  When she returned, she said the charges were legit and I was responsible for them.

I told her that was not correct and repeated my first statement.  The rep then asked me if anyone else could use my card and I answered no.  She told me to dispute it with my bank because their information was correct and it must be fraud.  I was angry and said, "This is not acceptable."  She said she was sorry but I needed to take this up with my bank.  Then I repeated, "This is not acceptable.  Goodbye," and hung up.

Redbox will not admit their wrongdoing.  I feel they stole from me.  This is not my bank's problem, this is a Redbox problem.  Needless to say, I will never stop at that red kiosk ever again.

This is an addendum to my previous reply:

1.  I never rented the DVDs in question.

2.  Redbox never batted an eye to my Ripoff Report until I emailed a copy of that report to my bank.

3.  I realize you do not want to reveal your true name, but nothing SCREAMS "I, or whom I repesent, am shady" more than "Johnny Doe."

But what if I didn't rent the DVD(s) in the first place?

As a Redbox Field Representative, I can assure you that every reported fraudulent disc is removed by a field representative. Trust me on this one.  I do it 5 days a week.  What the problem is that people will rent a disc, realize is fraudulent and put it back in the machine withouht reporting it. If it is not reported, it will be rented again.

The problem with automation is there is no human to deal with. What probably happened is that the previous renters just put the wrong movie in the wrong CD case. SO although you rented one movie it pulled up as another. They DONT send real ppl to check ever CD or mistake. As such, its your word against thiers. Pay it and never use them ever again. Try going BACK to the video store. Yes a vending machine can give you the movie faster, but if you have problems, a vending machine doesnt care.
