Complaint Review: Redken And Volana And Associates

I had my hair chemically straightened in September 2007 at a hairdressing salon called Volana and Associates in Western Australia. The girl who did it was only an apprentice and did not have a clue what she was doing.

The product they used was called Redken Vertical which is a chemical hair relaxer (straighting) solution. She applied the chemical directly onto my scalp and did not tke the time to ensure my hair was sitting straight with the chemical on. It actually looked like it had kinks in it.

When i got home i looked in the mirror and was most distressed to see that i had already lost about 30% of my hair. It was all fryed, stuck to my scalp, my scalp was burning. The next day it started falling out in clumps and i had that many bald spots all over my head.


The next day I went back to the hairdressing salon and she washed my hair which she should not have done anyway so soon after a relaxer was put on. She then attempted to blow dry it with a bit of volume in it, which did not work and said " at least you won't look like a cancer victim for the day". This made me even more upset.

I asked for my money back from the head office, as i paid $272 but they refused to give it back to me.

I have since found out that you are not suppose to apply the solution directly to the scalp and i have also found out through looking on the internet that there are a lot of complaints in America regarding this Redken Vertical stuff.

I am thinking about seeking legal advice for this matter and i am interested if there has been any law suits filed against redken or any other manufacturer of hair relaxing products or class action. If anyone could provide me with inormation in this mater i would be extremely grateful.
