I am very displeased with the hair cut I recently received from a master stylist at Regis. I had spent six months growing my hair and decided to go in and get a trim for a simple, basic one length bob hair cut. I was told that I could not go wrong if I chose a master stylist. Boy, is that ever wrong! I explained exactly how I wanted my hair cut and even showed the stylist pictures. Instead of ending up with a one length trimmed bob, I ended up with a uneven cut with about 25 different lengths.

To make matters worse, the stylist cut a 4 inch triangle of hair above the nape of my neck which is between 1/4 to 1/2 an inch long and very crooked at that. She told me that she cut that to make my hair curl under since she got so close to my hairline. My hair is such a moppy mess and uneven that it's bothersome because it's not balanced. I just don't understand how a client can express every aspect of the hair cut they wish to receive and the stylist gives them a horrible mess in return. It is going to take me 5 or 6 months to get my hair above the nape of my neck back down to where it was.

I just don't understand where these people get their training. Don't they teach customer satisfaction anymore? I spent $38.00 on this cut and could have got a better cut somewhere else. Now I have to find someone who can straighten this mess out and my (what was) shoulder length hair will now have to be cut as short as a man's hair cut. I have had two extremely bad haircuts in my whole life and the other cut, come to think of it, was at a Regis located in Hutchinson, KS. If you want to throw your money away... go to Regis. Better yet, just toss the money down the toilet and spare yourself the hair heartache!

Pictures of Hairstyles

I am a Hairstylist and what many people don't know is that if you show a stylist a picture there is no way on earth your hair will turn out the exact same way. First of all, *it depends on the texture of your hair, size of your head, technique used to achieve the style, and the listed goes on. No one stylist can create the same exact style twice. It is not possible. I guarantee something will be different. My advice to other stylist: If someone brings you a picture of a style there are 2 things you should do -
#1 Be Honest! If you know you can't do the style just let the customer know. You would rather be honest than to have the customer upset with you in the end.
#2 If you can grasp the concept of the style explain to the customer that their hair will not be exactly like the photo but it will be a version of the style. Also explain to them why* (the reasons I listed in the above paragraph).

your stylist is a beautician, not a magician!

Just because you showed the stylist a picture does not mean that you will end up looking exactly like the person in the picture!

Remember this: your stylist is a beautician, NOT a MAGICIAN!

Do you have curly hair? If you do that could explain what happened during the simple bob cut. I have curly hair and a few times while having it cut ended up with it totally butchered. (The different lengths and everything.)

I have learned that when getting my hair cut I either find someone who has curly hair (they normally can cut it as well, because they've been through the entire butchering thing too.), if I'm visiting my mother, ask her if her stylist can fit me in, (my mom has curly hair as well.), or ask them if they can blow my hair dry straight before cutting it. (I normally use this one.)

I have had no more problems since then. Good luck to you.

unfortunately schools that teach hairdressing and cosmetology teach you very little! i am a stylist and ill admit i barely knew the basics at my first 2 or 3 jobs and was let go. i learned from more experienced stylists what i should have learned during training! its sad to get a license and a job and not know how to do a men's clipper cut. i see this a lot,in fact ive had other women new to this career ask me to show them a basic clipper cut! its the schools, not the ppl who do your hair! they get licensed and try to do services they dont know how to do.

Regis Hair Salon

I have been getting my hair cut at the Regis Hair Salon that you are reporting now for over six years. I have never found a stylist until then that could actually make my very thin fine hair look good. Even when my stylist was out on maternity leave, the fill in did an awesome job. I have had nothing but excellent service there. I have even recommended the place to many of my friends and co-workers and now my boss is regular there as well.

I'm sorry your experience was so bad.

Haircut? Don't just sit there; watch how much they're cutting.

Ann, sorry to hear this. In the future, watch as your hair is being cut. How much are they taking off? Ask to use a hand mirror if needed. I watch everything. Stylists. Dentists. Zero trust. If I needed surgery, I'd probably stay awake for that too.

Look at the bright side. Two bad cuts in a lifetime puts you ahead of many other women. If it end up really, really short, you could try a wig. Who knows, a long blond wig could open up a whole new side of you.

Good luck, Ann!
