I worked for this company in Grenada, MS. I came to work on time everday, ran this salon, and took care of our wonderful customers for exactly one year and six days. They never had to worry about our salon! I did everything i could to try and make this an accceptable business. Don't get me wrong everyone makes mistakes in life, but i really tried hard. We have had several stylists who should have been terminated for tardiness, excessive absence, and horrible customer service. They are still there!! I had a customer come in 30 minutes before opening and wanted a service. I explained that we were not open yet, but as soon as we were I would be GLAD to service her. She was extremely rude, loud, and horrid!!!!! I was told that i was being terminated for not handling the situation properly. If asking the customer to lower her voice so you can speak with her is not the proper way then I dont know how else to do it!!!! They are prejudice and a very discriminative company to work for. We also have a new supervisor whose name is Tonia Holmes that is responsible for my termination. Thanks Tonia for not caring or trying to hear both sides of a story. May I also add that the witness who witnessed the situation came forward and said she would speak to my supervisor was turned away!!! So if you are an employee of this company don't think that your hard work is appreciated!!!!

Thanks,

Erin

Just in response to this, i feel your pain.  I was the same way, at work on time doing exactly what i was supposed to.  I am a very open person willing to learn. I had been with this company for a little over a year and was starting to get a pretty good clientele and out of nowhere they came on with the pressure.  The supervisor, Glady Mejias is a not a very understanding person and only loves to have managers with no backbone. I was employeed at the Stockbridge, ga smartstyle (manager is Kimberly Wilson) and the manager was so weak she would not even stand up for her good employees, and for that i had to leave.  It is the best feeling i have had.  Any new stylists I would tell to RUN!!!

You know, usually I like to handle things like this face-to-face with the person that may have a problem, but since some people have nothing better to do than lower themselves to slandering people over the internet, I feel that this is the only way I could respond. I am Tonia Holmes, the ex-supervisor for Regis/Smart Style that was named in the initial report. I am no longer with the company because I chose to work closer to home where I could be with my husband and family. The fact that I am being accused of "not hearing both sides of the story" concerning the customer service complaint in question is inaccurate and really quite comical. Erin, I received a call from home office in regards to the customer service department receiving a call concerning you getting rude with not only the customer in question, but other customers as well. In fact, I've heard of as many as 8-10 calls made to customer service on you alone. I have had employees, past and present, inform me that your work was less than satisfactory, and that the duties you were supposed to perform as a manager were sub-par at best. You have been a lot of the reason why employees have either quit or asked for transfers from the Grenada salon. There has been phone calls made to me concerning you not wanting to close certain nights, complaining about customers and stirring up gossip and arguments between other stylists, breaking confidentiality by telling other stylists if someone had to be written up, detailed reasons for a stylist's termination, or other related matters, and also I had received reports of retaliation by you when an employee would try to talk to you about a problem in the salon that you were at fault for. You also failed to follow instructions given to you by me and by Bertha Johnson, our regional supervisor and instead did what YOU wanted to do. One in particular involved a former employee whose child was ill and could not come in to work their scheduled shift--I specifically told you that you were NOT to give this employee the option to come in for only a couple of hours to make sure the salon was closed. I told you that you were to tell this employee that they needed to come in for their shift as it was scheduled UNLESS her child was so ill that she could not come in and from there you would have to cover the shift, seeing as though you were the manager. But instead of listening to instructions, you called the employee at her home and told her that she could come in at 8 o'clock that night and work for the last hour of business so that someone would be there to close that night. And then on top of that, you blatantly lied to this employee by stating you absolutely cannot close and that she had no choice but to come in that evening (even though management is required to cover shifts if the employee is not able to due to a legitimate emergency). I believe you gave some song and dance about how you were going out of town that weekend and couldn't close, when everyone in the salon had heard you a couple of days prior state that you would in fact be in Grenada that particular weekend. And what about your unprofessional attitude towards the stylists? One incident in particular had you all but yelling at one in particular in front of the other stylists and customers that were present. That is VERY unbecoming for someone in a management position and you know it. There were reports of you being on the phone for up to an hour at a time each day, cursing and berating your boyfriend when customers were in earshot. Need I mention that there were other allegations of you going into the computer and entering re-dos for services that you DID NOT perform? That is STEALING money from another stylist. Are you going to sit there and tell me that you did two re-dos for two children's haircuts in the same night from the same stylist? I don't think so. I checked the computer, and it was in the employee sales review for that day so please don't deny it. That alone should have had you terminated and red-flagged to prevent you from ever being employed with the company ever again, because it falls not only under the category of falsifying company records, but also employee theft. But being that you had your "friend" in the supervisor position at that time, those allegations went unnoticed and were not investigated. Erin, you were not terminated because the company is "prejudiced and discriminatory" as you put it, and the customer complaint against you was just the tip of the iceberg. You were terminated due to a number of issues; some already mentioned and others that are not. So as far as your "management skills" are concerned, you might want to brush up on them a little bit. If you would have done your job and done it PROPERLY, you would still be employed there. As far as other stylists who were "rude, tardy, and had poor customer service", you didn't seem to have a complaint with them then did you? Oh wait, that's right. You didn't have a problem with the WHITE stylists who may have been tardy or possessed "poor customer service skills." Although it has been reported to me and Bert that the white stylists that you did have a problem with were the ones that closely associated with the black stylist who worked in the salon at the time. Now who's being "prejudiced and discriminatory"?? And you know, to be quite honest, I don't recall ever hearing from home office about any customer service or employee relations issues concerning anyone in that salon but YOU. And if we never had to worry about the salon, then why were there frequent visits and phone calls from supervisors in the company (myself included)? It may be because the person that was hired to run it wasn't fit to do so. But I guess that's what happens in this "who you know determines how far you go" society that we live in. Because let's face it; you were only hired because of a friendship with the supervisor at that time. That was told to me not long after I took the supervisor position over. And of course, a couple of phone calls from your father to the former supervisor helped out as well. You know, if you want to be angry with me over your termination then that's fine. Rest assured I'm not going to lose sleep over it. But you also have to realize that the main reason you should be angry is because you brought that on yourself. You didn't have "protection" from your job anymore because the person who let you get away with anything and everything left the company, and then from there I took over. I may have been considered strict or harsh, but that was only because I wanted an excellent salon with even more excellent employees working in it. And that, Erin, is the reason why you were terminated from your position. Not because of any kind of discrimination, not because I refused to hear "your side of the story", and not because I didn't appreciate hard work. The reason why you were terminated was because of YOU.

Erin, honey, I know Tonia was probably one of the strictest supervisors I personally have ever had to deal with, but do you honestly think that you were the best of the best as far as managers were concerned??? This box really isn't big enough to refresh your memory on the mishaps that went on in that shop while you were there, and half of them involved you in some way. I know that there towards the end it got to where NONE of us wanted to be there, and that's why the company can't keep anyone there. To be quite honest, you were one of the main reasons why I left--on both occasions. I feel as if you were rude, instigating, manipulative, and down-right sorry if you want to know the truth. There was constant back-biting going on there and I would feel that it's fair to say that 85-90% of it was from you. You can sit there and lie and say that you've never said anything bad about me or whatever, but I know better. And you can deny that you were ever rude to a customer, or late for work, or you didn't steal from the company--whatever. (Mighty funny that we didn't start having drawer shortages until you came along.) But that's o.k., because like Keiona always said, "When you do dirty, dirty comes back on you." Which is why you're not there anymore. Karma sure is a beautiful thing.

smartstyle doesnt care about its employees! i worked for a s.s. in rochester ny. was terminated for going to work too early and getting the salon ready to open! ill never work for those crooked scumbags again. youll never get ahead with this company. hard work, youll get the shaft! im much happier at a franchised competitor of the regis corporation. these hair salon corporations need to start caring about their customers or the competition will put them under! regis has become nothing more than a huge stockholder owned company.
