I contacted Reliance Home comfort for purchasing a new furnace for my house. The salesman verbally told me that it will cost $4400. Since I didn't have all the money to pay in full I requested for renting option. He verbally saying yes we can do it. No explanation of the charges before hand. Salesman came up in a rush with written agreement for me to sign. As I am reading through, he tells me that it is the same price as we talked and I can buy it out anytime. Since he was in rush I sign the agreement trusting on his verbal assurance.

Later, I started looking into the numbers that he put in there, I was surprised. The agreement charges me almost $9000 over two years. No where I could find the number $4400 that salesman promised me. So I called their 1-800 number to know why it is charging me so much. The billing department told me that they cannot do anything now. Also there is no buy-out option with this file.

I was shocked to see that whatever this salesman told me is not true. He showed me rosy picture and hide all the realities and rushed me to sign the agreement. Then I got hold of him and asked him to cancel renting option and put me on financing option so that it will get paid off quickly. For him to understand what I want, I gave him example of Best Buy, where we can buy stuff and pay off with 0% interest or with some reasonable fee.

Next time again he comes in a rush with all the numbers on this agreement. No discussion before hand on what I will be signing on. He catches me as soon as I come out of my car and here it is, please sign this. No explanation on the details of agreement. He says it is what we talked and you can buy it out when you pay off completely. When he is gone I am looking at this agreement properly. Surprise!! The interest rate these people charging me is 16.9%. With such a ridiculous interest rate I will be paying even more that the rental agreement.

I was set to pay $100 per month for next 10 years, totaling almost $12000 for my furnace. So again ridiculous financing. I was left with no other option but to pay off completely. I ended up paying whole amount upfront and got my budget all screwed up because of these people. Canadian Tire offered me 0% financing, but it was too late.

I learned my lesson hard way. I want others to know that renting or financing options for furnace from these guys are not the same as water heater rental. It is a total rip-off.
