I placed an order to switch my electricity provider from TXU to Reliant Energy, for which I paid a $275 deposit that was debited from my account immediately.

The next day I received an e-mail stating that it would take 4-6 weeks for the switch. I contacted Reliant two days later by both phone and e-mail to cancel the switch and have my deposit refunded only to learn that, whereas Reliant had the means to debit my bank account for the deposit, they had no means of crediting it back to my account.

Sound fishy to you? It did it to me. I was next told that I would have to wait 7-10 days to receive the refund of my deposit by check. Like so many utility companies, they have no problem taking consumers' money, but they have a hard time returning it when legitimately and legally demanded.

The lesson: IF YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT DOING BUSINESS WITH RELIANT, SAVE YOURSELF THE PAIN AND AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! I'm glad I changed my mind about it before being even more badly burnt by Reliant, as I'm sure I would have been.
