Called about a rebuilt engine for 85 Eldorado in mid June 2011 was told a price & that it would take a week. Fed Exed a check on June 18th.  Followed up on June 22nd and was told it would ship around July 13th. Checked back every week since always to be told waiting for parts should ship the next    week. On Aug 19 I was told parts were in and I would have tracking by Aug 23rd. Still nothing.

Mechanic finished & was driving to car wash when new engine blew a piston arm. I guess I am the jerk for paying by check & not reading the warranty.

KEEP CUSTOMERS INFORMED

Yes we all have been stuck waitng for parts. But normally all manufacturers give you legitamate lead times and all offer tracking once they have shipped. To be told 3 weeks at first & than it will ship within a week for 5 weeks after that was diconcerning. For a company that demands payment upfront and has it's share of complaints & very upset customers, just left me thinking I had been ripped off.   I would not have had a problem or complained if some one had been honest and said 8-12 week lead time. We will call you when the part comes in. Instead I had to make all the calls & was told at least 4 times they expected to ship in a few days.

Yes, there are "plenty of places." However, this was clearly not an inventory engine - it was clearly an engine custom built, hence the "waiting for parts."

You ever been stuck waiting for parts? I have. And it sucks, and I hate it for my customers, but the ones who want good work understand.

I suppose you think that getting an engine a month late is a good thing?   I found the OP's report to be very informative.    There are a lot of places that will deliver an engine (rather than excuses) when they say they will.

Well, it looks like you got your engine, but left the business that sold it to you nursing bad reputation. Hopefully it explodes the first day after their warranty is up. :|
