In March 2012 I went to a Mortgage Broker to get pre-approved for a home loan. They pre-approved me for $245,000. I made an offer on a home on May 18th and the offer was accepted. My mortgage broker chose REMN for the financing and asked me for additional bank statments and other paperwork. May 24th, I was asked for more documents but still no decision from REMN on the financing. June 2nd, they asked me for more documents including my divorce decree which was almost 15 years ago, receipts from the seller for upgrades they made on the home I was trying to buy, additional appraisal and land documents.

Still they would not give me a definitive answer on the loan. June 5th I asked my broker if they had any answers from REMN and they told me they were still waiting. June 8th I asked again, still nothing. I tried calling REMN myself and they would not speak with me. The associate who answered the phone said they are not allowed to speak with the buyer. June 18th the second appraisal was completed but I still had not heard anything regarding the financing from REMN. On June 20th, the seller of the home was getting very upset that I had not secured financing from REMN and threatened to cancel the agreement. On June 21st, I still had not heard anything from REMN and the seller of the home sent the cancellation notice.

After all the money I had spent on the inspection, the appraisal and the time and energy it was all lost thanks to REMN dragging their feet. I was in tears because I had lost the home I had my heart set on. REMN doesn't care about that, they don't care about people. I still have no idea why they never gave me the loan; I was pre-approved and I had given them every document they had asked for. I hope no one else uses REMN and has their heart broken by them.

Hello,

In reading your story it appears your loan was suspended by the lender and your broker may have given up depending on why your loan wasn't approved. Money is not lent to people based on how nice or caring they are. Would you lend thousands for dollars to your nice coworker or neighbors? I don't know what your credit profile looks like or why you weren't approved but you should have done more on your end with your broker who gets paid a lot of money to help you find out why you did not receive an approval.

Looks like the Broker issued pre approval may be the root of this issue.  Regardless of a broker pre approval, each loan must stand on its own merit when presented to the lender.  We are unable to comment in more detail without loan specifics available, but do apologize for your experience.  Certainly delays and issues arise in the mortgage process, particularly at current volume levels.  REMN is a national wholesale lender closing thousands of loans each month, many of which are originated by brokers.  Industry leading turn times and customer service are REMNs top priority.
