Why is someone who has a $2000 plus photo hanging on a wall, or sitting on a surface, renting furniture from a bottom feeder like Rent A Center?

Why would you have such a picture in any kind of vulnerable position where anyone, yourself included, might accidentally knock it down and damage it?

A civil court would possibly rule against you, even if it is established that delivery men knocked into it, on the premise that you did not take reasonable precautions, given that said delivery might cross paths with the picture's location.

In other words, your lack of reasonable precaution would wash out any carelessness on the part of the delivery.

Had the picture been removed to safe keeping for the delivery, or encased in a reasonably protective barrier, then you might have a case if their actions still resulted somehow in its damage.

Short of already having a judgment against them, you can't just abrogate your rental obligations to them without legal or civil consequences. You need to both pay your obligations to them, and take them to court if you feel you have a reasonable shot at getting a judgment on them.

I have rented things from RAC in the past and will never return.  They have the WORST customer service I have ever experienced!  It does not surprise me that they will not fix what they broke.  You really need to contact a lawyer to have your items replaced.

You have entered into a rental agreement, but you can refuse to pay and stake a claim.  As far as them reporting to credit bureaus, let them as when you go to court and they have to pay to fix what they damaged in your home, you can also ask the judge that they notify the credit bureaus and have the claims removed from your record.  Since there is a valid dispute, this should not go on your record.  This is the long way to go, but in the end the vindication is worth it!

So as the Godfather would say, "Take them to the Mattresses!"

I work at RAC and Im very sorry to hear about what happened to one of the photos in your collection. That said, when customers neglect to make payments without returning the product, RAC has the right to take legal action to reclaim the items and missed payments. This is a matter of last resort when all other avenues have failed. Please be aware that these types of lawsuits remain on record for years and may affect future employment, rental or loan opportunities. Hope this was helpful.

You can likely be arrested for theft, if you don't pay what you owe, but

you can likely also have your teachers arrested for fraud for your lack of education.

"this picture is rear its sign"  What does this mean?  Possibly, "This picture is rare, it's signed?"

"the delivery guys broke a very rear Beatles pic"   What does this mean?  ..."a very rare Beatles pic?"

Rear would be the backside of the Beatles, is that what your REALLY meant?

Totally incorrect.  In many states, you most certainly CAN be arrested for FAILURE TO RETURN RENTAL MERCHANDISE.  This is not a "bill" as you put it.  It is a RENTAL AGREEMENT, not a PURCHASE CONTRACT.  The renter has absolutely NO CLAIM on the merchandise until the agreement has been completed and ownership has been transferred.  If you were to rent a car for a week and then fail to return it, or fail to pay to continue renting, don't you think that the Sheriff would soon be knocking at your door ??  It's EXACTLY the same with RentACenter.  In my state, and several others, you could be arrested.  Do you know the laws of all 50 statesOf course you don't.  Neither do I.  But I DO know the laws of MY state regarding Rental Agreements.  And arrest and jail time are one of the possible punishments for refusing to return rented merchandise.

...but you can have goods repossessed from you and your credit score will take a negative hit. Now is it the picture itself or the frame that was damaged? If it's just the frame then it won't cost you much to replace it, maybe $20 for a fancy one.

If they damaged the picture itself then you have a problem. Just because such pictures can sell for X amount on eBay doesn't mean that this amount is a fixed market value. In order to determine the loss without any sort of doubt you would have to have the picture appraised by an accredited expert which can be very costly.

Yes ,depending on your state's laws, it is possible that you CAN be arrested for refusal to return rented merchandise.  However, unless the manager is a hard case, he most likely will not resort to that.  Have you spoken to an attorney.  That would be your absolute best course of action.  Don't wait around for RAC to pay.  They'll never do it without a court order.

First off the answer is NO, they cannot arrest your for not paying that bill.  Second, If you have proof of the value of the picture then I would go after them legally.
The picture, if that valuable, IMO should have been insured.

You will need a lawyer to help you facilitate this action. You will need valid proof, not just your word. Although they can't arrest you for this, your credit will suffer, but I'm pretty sure you already knew this.
