Against my better judgement , I went into a RAC on Aug 31,2007 to see if I could get a recliner used or new.
I was shown a recliner and told abot a 90 days same as cash deal or rent to own , which would add up to 200% of the cost of the chairs.I kind of figured that part ahead of time.

They offered the "no payment till Sept 15,2007".
They said I could pay every week, 2 weeks or monthly, they printed out a 10 page contract with all the legalese that nobody reads, and I figured I would come back and pay a chunk of the buyout balance down within the next month and get it paid off within the 90 days.I never intended to go the length of the rental contract at the exorbitant price. So I got a leather chair and the recliner delivered in 2 days.

It was nice and I expected to pay them off in 90 days at a cost of about $1100 total. This is also what I told the manager at the store,a tattoed thug like dude with shifty eyes and cheap jewelry.

Well on Saturday Sept 15 I got a call from RAC saying my payment was due NOW.I told him I thought I gad a month, I only had it 2 weeks. He said no you got the promo deal so in 2 weeks you were due to pay the first $100 monthly payment. I told him all my bills are paid, I was broke and I would have to wait till my next pay in 2 weeks then I would pay up to date and more on the 90 days cash deal.

He said stop getting mad at me I will have to come get the chairs tomorrow unless you pay tomorrow.
I was not even getting short with him he immediately went defensive on me. I told him well in that case "come get your crap".They will be here in 2 days.

I feel that RAC is a crooked predatory company that preys on poor areas and people with no or bad credit.
I knew I should have NOT done the deal but I figured I could get the same as cash deal and have new chairs at a decent price.BUT obviously they don't expect people to pay for the stuff in 90 days ,they expect to get the whole rental year out of poor people OR wait for them to default, which in there terms default is "1" day.
I have had the furniture covered for the whole time I had it ,so it is in excellent new condition, barely used in 2 weeks.Let's see if they try to charge me something for wear, I will not give them another dime.

What happens to all this repossessed furniture? It is not for sale in the store as used and they only have "new" furniture for rent.

I smell a huge scam.

Other fools come here to second guess the contract, some of which was verbal, between the OP and the store owner or RAC. Overall these people are predators and will say and offer one thing then do something else.

Why bother responding to a complaint you have ZERO facts about? This was between him and RAC and you have no witness of any of it. If I was him I'd have kept the items and sued them for breach of contract. And leave it at that.

Seems he got resolve another way.  So good for him and bad for you finding fault with him. You other responders can take your advice some place else. Since it is crap.

Well at the begining of your statment you stated that they were having no payments until Sept. 15. so why would you think that on Sept. 15 you would have to make a payment. the fact that they are picking up the merch. is because in the agreement it state that is you don't make a payment on or before your due date the agreement is breach and rent a center has the right to there merch. also rent a center does not state that we do not sell used furniture. on the bottom of each price tag it clearly states whether an item is previously rented or not. in the future with any company i sugest actualy going over the agreeement you sign.

Priced the recliner and chair somehwere else and bought them outright
save $600. Even at 90 days cash deal.

Glad I came to my senses and di not pay the 90 days deal.
So rented 2 chairs for 12 days for $6.00.

I apologize to the manager for critiquing his appearance, he may be a good guy , just works for a terrible company.

I suspect RAC has people that watch ripoffreport and other sites to make customers look like idiots.

You misunderstood the agreement

I'm kind of with Sparklez on this one. It seems like you didn't take the time to fully understand the agreement you entered into.

The trade-off for getting products from RAC, who doesn't perform credit checks and will rent to anyone with an address, is that you pay for your rental time up-front. So the default is that you make your first payment on the day you get the item.

You were given a "no payments until Spet. 15" deal. You erroneously interpreted this deal in a pretty illogical way. I would interpret it as meaning that I would have to make a payment on Sept. 15. You interpreted as meaning that a payment would be due on Oct. 15, thinking that your bill is due at the end of the billing cycle.

So I fail to see a ripoff here. Further, I've dealt with RAC in the past, and I've found that they go to great lengths to keep accounts active, and offer quite a bit of leeway with payments as long as you are easy to deal with and honest about your situation.

The promo is called "Free untill September 15th". Hence you paymet is due on that date. If you had gotten it on credit you could pay it when ever you wanted. But it is on a "rental agreement". First payment must be on time, no exceptions. For someone that can't save a dime to buy it out cash and a company that lets you have it delivery free of charge have it delivered for two weeks free nothing down sound like a rip off?
