I had a mutual friend that told me "if you would like to purchase some appliances that might have been previously rented you could go to rent a center and buy the appliance for a lower price."(whatever the previous renter paid into they take off the cash price) because my husband and I just got married and bought our first house this seemed like one of those areas where we could cut expenses.

When I went in to rent a center to talk to them about buying they had me fill out this application form which I guess is a formality, but I made it very clear I DONT WANT TO RENT, just buy. Well the application included my employer information and my salary, and sure enough they called my employer verified my info. This was totally uncalled for I didnt want to rent. Why would someone have to know all this info If I was paying upfront in cash no furniture store says that they have to verify your info if you are paying up front in cash for all of it. I am so disturbed then the Rent a Center guys started calling me all the time at work I told them to stop and they wouldnt, and the store manager even had the nerve to show up at my door and ask me when I was coming into the store I went to the Home Depot where I paid in cash and no one from the Depot harassed me. The guy finally stopped after I told him that I was going to call the cops if he came to my door one more time. This company is so wierd. I understand that they deal with people who screw them all the time, so they should have appreciated somone to pay up front.

Why would you give personal info?

I'd just like to comment that anyone out there who wants to purchase a product of any type with cash or even a credit card - I hope you will be smart enough not to fill out any forms asking for personal information.

Why would you do that? Common sense should have prevailed here.
