I was contacted by a woman who identified herself as Suzanne Lunham of Rephen Law Firm in New York. She said they were collecting on a bad check written to my physicians office two years ago. I expressed surprise and annoyance that this could have even occured. They requested payment right away, but did not even mention the amount "due." I requested all their contact information and a file number and told her I would contact my bank and my physicians office before I would send anything to them, and instructed her not to call my number again.

I contacted my physicians office and was assured that this was a bogus claim and not to pay it.

I called Ms. Lunham of Rephen Law Firm back and left a message on her recorder stating who I was, my file number and that I would be reporting her firm to the Nebraska Attorney General's office. Which I will now promptly do.

I am from the Rephen law firm and have been advised of your anonymous posting. Being anonymous, I presume you have something to hide. Your comments are wholly inaccurate and, as such, I would advise you reconsider them. For starters, as part of the Rephen law firm's policies, if you are disputing a debt(s) that was forwarded to this law firm then you were surely advised to provide proof and, in response, we would gladly undertake a review or re-validation. If you were claiming that the debt(s) in question was not yours then we surely provided you with directions to get the matter rectified. However, if you are obligated on the debt(s), then you should resolve the same voluntarily. Files placed with this law firm are sent here as a last resort because debtors', perhaps as yourself, have failed to resolve their debt(s) for a long period of time, the debt(s) having been processed and pursued extensively through the merchant and/or collection agency or agencies. We rely on information provided by the creditor, information, from our experience, which is usually accurate. This firm, without question, follows the strict confines of all applicable laws. Failing to pay a merchant or creditor for your outstanding debt(s) that are owed to them, is the only questionable behavior that needs to be discussed.
