We rented a small enclosed trailer at  uhaul dealer in a town in Georgia. We purchased insurance. The representative hooked up the trailer and said "we were set to go." We drove approx. 3 miles to where we were loading the items being carried. Went I stepped on the the back of the trailer to start loading, the trailer tongue came off the hitch and smashed into the back of our vehicle.

We looked at the tongue and it appeared cracked but we didn't know how it was supposed to look. We put the trailer back onto the hitch and carefully drove back to the uhaul dealer. He said "mmm that shouldn't have happened" and that we should use a 2" ball. We purchased a new 2" ball from him and he rehooked the trailer.  We loaded our items and drove to Northern Michigan.

We contacted Republic Western Insurance Co. (Uhaul insurance) and provided all the information that they requested. BUT the uhaul representative said that he never hooked up the trailer and that it never happened. In fact that we drove off without even having lights on the trailer.

The quote for repair is $800 plus change and my car insurance should not have to pay for the damages as I purchased insurance on the trailer. I have been dealing with Republic Western Insurance Co. since this occurred in April and am getting a complete run around.
