ResCare, Normal Life ripoff way under paid and appriciated scandless activities in managment Terre Haute Indiana
I've been working for Normal Life a branch of ResCare for a year now and I have not had a raise or even an evaluation. I work from 8a-4p, I don't get a break or lunch and I make $7.05 an hour for taking care of 8 special needs men who are all low functioning. I have co-workers in the group home that I work at who have been there for over 2 years that haven't recieved a raise or evaluation either.
I am just wondering how a company can get away with this? Is there someone or something out there that could help us? Is this a normal pay for this type of work?
This all set me off on an angry kick when we where in a meeting last month and raises where brought up and the Director of Normal Life got up and said that we are on a budget freeze and if you don't like it there's the door. Then, last week I went to the office and there was a UPS truck unloading new Dell Computers. Come to find out that the Director had order new computers for everyone in the office (not group homes). When they all ready had nice computer in the office. He said he is giving the old computers to the group homes all except the one I am working at because "saying they are to low functioning"
I have recently found out that the QMRP over the Brazil, IN homes has took money out of one of the residents accounts to pay her car payment and didn't return the money. Some of the home managers go and buy grociers for the group home and take some of the residents food home with them. Also, some do that with clothes say they are buying clothes for the resident and the resident never gets the clothes.
How low can people get stealing food and clothes from Handicapped/Special needs people!!

My name is Brenda Cornett and I happened across this site. I worked for ResCare for a little over 13 years until I became disabled and had to retire. I have never had a better job, and a more satisfying one. I found the people I worked with to be kind and loving and cared for the Residents. I started out as an attendent they used to call the employees. Then after a few years I managed a group home there. I loved my job, loved the Residents, and I truely feel loved by the Residents, the management and all the staff. When I left, Anita Bryant was presiding over the downtown office and ResCare in Terre Haute. I have never met a more caring and loving person towards the staff and the Residents. It is true she is pretty direct when he speaks; but she was always honest with me. This is the way I truely feel. If I were not disabled now; I would go back and work for free. My friends, there is only one difference between the residents and us; just one bathtub slip away. I alway kept that in mind over the years. Well, I have had my say. For those of you who feel you aren't getting paid enough for your jobs; what rewards we don't get here on earth, we get in Heaven............................Brenda Cornett

I too work for ResCare and all of this sad to hear of this. If this is going on my suggestion to you is to report it to your immediate supervisor. If your not comfortable with that, report it to the ED and if it is not taken care of, call the compliance line. All ResCare employees should have access to this 1-800 number and it is confidential. ResCare is an excellent company to work for. ResCare has policies and procedures in place to protect the people we serve. If all of this is going on report it!!
