Residential Warranty Services RWS Won't pay to have HVAC air conditioning repaired Carmel IN
My A/C broke about a month after purchasing our house. We have a home warranty through Residential Warranty Services that covers A/C failures (max payout $10,000). I called and filed a claim and was given the option to secure my own contractor and receive reimbursement. We opted to do this because it was 80 degrees in the house and we needed it fixed ASAP. I received a quote and the repairs needed identified a leaking evaporative coil and condensing coil. The cost to repair the evaporative coil was $1600 and the condensing coil was $4800. The contractor's part cost alone for the condensing coil was over $2000. After submitting the estimate to "RWS" they were only willing to pay a total of $1671 for both repairs. When I asked them how that was supposed to cover the costs ($6400), they said they only pay for costs of parts based on their prices. When I asked where they could find the condensing coil and installation for $600 (that portion of the $1600), they said that's what they found online. They went on to say it may not be the same part as my unit, but it is comparable. I asked how I was supposed to buy a low cost part that is not specific to my unit, since it won't be compatible and they said that they aren't responsible for providing compatible parts. This is fraud! You can't give me a low ball payout for a part that won't even work in my A/C unit! That's not to mention that the $200 in labor fees that they offered is nowhere close to what it will cost to have the parts swapped out. Once again, fraud!
I will be looking for an attorney to recoup the actual repair costs and my legal fees. In the meantime, avoid this company at all costs! They were extremely difficult to work with and even after working my way up to a supervisor, they just kept repeating the same lines from their playbook. They wouldn't even tell me where I could go find the price online that they were basing their part cost from. Why!?
