Resource One Credit Union - Elan Financial Services Cardmember Service RIPOFF Takes advantage of Hurricane Victim Fargo North Dakota

For years I have this Resource One Credit Union and have always done good with it. Then Elan Financial Services took over the account in 2005 and every thing changed suddenly there were over the limit fees and late fees with only $2 or $3 dollars over the credit limit. In late August CATEGORY FIVE Hurricane Katrina came thru Louisiana affecting us in Texas, then on September 24 CATEGORY FIVE Hurricane Rita came to Texas. Seeing what Katrina did to Louisiana we here in Texas didn't want to take to any chances of the devastation of a CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE RITA, so we boarded up our homes and all businesses were closed and workers allowed to go home, until the hurricane passed.

Resource One Credit Union was closed for business nearly a week around the Hurricane Rita time frame from September 22 to the next week, all post offices and services, all businesses, all banks were closed. It was even on CNN and MSNBC national news how Houston Texas had a 100 mile freeway car back-up we made history evacuating Houston due to CATEGORY FIVE Hurricane Rita was coming that Saturday, the city wisely closed down that Thursday so we could evacuate. Houston Texas made the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest car back up in history of the United States as over 2.5 MILLION people evacuated Houston, South and East Texas.

With this knowledge I was shocked when I got my credit card statement noticing I received a $35.00 Over limit Fee and a $35.00 Late Fee from Elan Financial Services Cardmember Service as Resource One Credit Union and all banks and postal services were closed, I believe knowing we were victims of Hurricane Rita we would not have to pay any late fees due to the bill being due on the day of the Hurricane. If the banks and post office would have been open I would have gotten my payment in on time and NOT went over my limit, since their own Resource One Credit Union was closed itself they would be more understanding. I want the $35.00 Over limit Fee and a $35.00 Late Fee from Elan Financial Services Cardmember Service removed from my account as I am a CATEGORY FIVE Hurricane Rita victim.

They have the nerve to advertise they help hurricane victims and didn't help their own hurricane victim customer. I am a hurricane victim and their customer and I have not received any compassion nor help from either of them. I called Cardmember Services and requested to remove the $70.00 fees and was told not they would NOT. I feel every credit card holder in South and East Texas should not have to pay late fees, whose payment was due around the time of Hurricane Rita should be reversed. I am posting this message on http://www.ripoffreport.com because I feel I have been ripped off by Resource One Credit Union and Elan Financial Services Cardmember Service they added $70.00 in FEES to this hurricane victim's account.

You still have to pay

Bad things happen all the time to people. But that does not give us license to disregard the agreements we have made. You still owed a payment for the charges you made with your card. Not paying on time triggers a late fee and going over the approved limit triggers an overlimit fee. These are the terms you agreed to when you starting using your card. That said, most institutions will waive one or two fees as a courtesy for a customer if there is no pattern of abuse. In your case, you must have been late and/or over your credit limit  several times before, so no courtesy refunds for you.

Solution...even if late.

There was an option in their system when reversing fees that would allow them to override any decline on reversals. The service advisor you spoke with must not have been aware of this, or, they just didn't care. It's much too late now as in every system, even with credit card companies, there is a time limit to these things.... keep in mind to always ask them "Will you please reverse my fees?", this is the the key needed in the conversation, this allows them to take a look. Without asking, according to standard guidlines, almost everywhere, an employee cannot reverse a fee.
