Reunion.com Sends Spam to all of your contacts without adequate warning Internet
I got an email from a friend titled "peggy is looking for you" It said she had registered on reunion.com. I should have thought about it a little more before going to the website but I have been wondering lately about all of my old friends from high school.
I decided to use their free registration option to see what sort of information I could get. During the registration process there was a page that seemed to give me the option of searching my contacts BUT I DID NOT TAKE THAT OPTION. Within the next one or two pages I came to a page that informed me that 800-900 of my contacts had received email messages saying that I was looking for them!! I was horrified!! I never gave any explicit permission for that level of invasion.
I HATE spam and would never, ever knowingly send a message to everyone in my contacts list!! I immediately deleted my account on reunion.com but the damage has already been done. I just hope beyond hope that they have not stolen my contact information - but I fear they have. Afterall they have an email in their "sent" folder containing all of the people from my contact list that they sent that email to. Furthermore, I myself got a text message on my cell from them with the same message.
Finally, when I deleted the account I was informed that I would not be able to join reunion.com again - so I cannot go back and repeat the steps in order to find out what happened and whether I was warned or not.
This may not be an outright rip-off or fraud but it is extremely deceptive and at best an extremely inconsiderate use of the power of the internet. I am humiliated and mortified and may have to apologize to hundreds of people before I see the end of this.
