White Glove Moving And Storage late, estimates, higher charges, wrong dates, broken furniture, threats, contracts, signatures, lies, lost truck, mis-representation ripoff Jersey City New Jersey

It has been said that the act of moving to another state is one of the most stressful things anyone can experience. There is finding a good realtor, selling the house, buying, or renting, a place at the other end, turning off all the utilities here, turing them on there, changing addresses, changing banks, doctors, dentists, schools, mechanics, the list seems endless.

Moving cross country is as stressful. Now you have to find a moving company willing to go clear across the continent. And you have to make sure you can actually move in once you reach your new town, and then go through all the "settling in" processes (getting things turned on, and so forth.)

A couple of years ago I, along with some friends, thought it would be a great idea to moved from the retail sales and call-center world of Columbus, Ohio, to the opportunities that were waiting for us in Studio City, California. We started first by looking online for apartments, figuring out budgets, and deciding what to keep and what to sell or throw away.

We contacted a couple of movers who were willing to move us, and willing to charge a lot for the move. The cheaper of the big-name movers, Bekins, wanted to charge us $7,000.00 for the move. We declined and wanted to go cheap. We checked U-Haul and figured that it would easier and cheaper. No, to both. Around $5,000 and if the stuff we took with us was not packed properly, we would be hauling junk.

So, as luck would have it, we got a company that was willing to make the move for around $2,200. That worked for us. Boy were we wrong!

The two movers got to our place with a truck that was 2/3 of the way full with stuff from two other families. We were told that "like destinations would share the truck and the costs, thus keeping the costs down." Sounds good, in theory. But in practice..

The men, a young model-type wannabe from somewhere in the Middle East, and his assistant, an even younger and much shorter high-school graduate from Egypt, packed out stuff and loaded it onto the truck. The process took six hours. (We had most of the little stuff in boxes and ready to go. The bigger stuff, like the furniture, had to be wrapped up.)

Every two hours, we were told that the price would increases, "but only slightly. You are good people and gave us lunch and water." We had ordered pizzas earlier and ordered one for them, and paid for it. Boy would we pay for it!

They told us that the packing materials (cardboard cushions, boxes, and bubble-warp) would be charged to us. We were then told that we had used about $700 worth of stuff. No problem there.

When 4 o'clock rolled around, the movers were done. To our surprise the price had grown from $2,200, plus the $700 in materials, to $6,000. How? We still don't know. When we threatened to cancel their services by demanding they take everything off their truck, they called their office and asked about reducing the price. After an hour, we were able to bring it down by $100.00. Then they offered us another way in which to get the price lowered. If we were to follow them to a weigh station and the weight of the truck was less than they had estimated, then we could get a lower rate for the move. The key word here is could. They threatened us by saying that if the weight was more, we would be charged the extra cost. We took Mr Middle Eastern Model at his word (mistake) and agreed to pay the cost. We also took them at there word when they, the office and the movers, said that they would be in Studio City in about a four days, "a week at the most."

What could we do? Everything was on the truck and locked up. We reluctantly said "o.k." and left. They followed us west and the last time we saw them, they were turning off into a truck stop just outside of Columbus.

Well, we finally arrived in Studio City, California, got the apartment, and settled in without our stuff, and waited. And waitied. And waited.

We called the office and was told, get this, that they did not know where the truck was, exactly. Now folks, from Columbus, Ohio to California is pratically a straight shot on the same highway! We knew that they had other deliveries, but what we didn't know was that they were in New Jersey!

White Glove Movers, Inc. out of New Jersey, kept our stuff for a full twenty-one days! They hid behind their statements of the fourteen business days as listed on the contract. They hid behind some crooked owner intent on doing nothing for us but keep our stuff. They lied, everytime we called. One time, we called and were told that the own was in a meeting. "So what? Get him!" we demanded. Nothing happened.

When the stuff finally got to us, another Middle Eastern Model Wannabe and some frog-looking munchkin finally gave us our stuff, broken and otherwise. They tried to get us to sign papers saying that they delivered out stuff in a timely manner and that nothing was broken, and that we would not be filing a claim. We refused and a small argument, resulting in a call to their main office, in New Jersey. The man at White Glove Movers told us to mark out the statement about not signing for a claim, circle the word "am," and sign it as we would be filing a claim.

When we told this to the movers, Munchkin Man went into an outrage, screaming and cussing us out, resulting in our kicking him and the other guy out. They left. Fifteen mintues later, the taller guy came back, apologized (like that was going to help!), and obtained out signatures. We followed him outside and down to the truck where Munckin Man was complaining in tongues we hever heard before. I took photos of the truck, and never heard from them again, until we got a statement that we were getting an additional $250.00 off the bill. One item damaged was a glass chess set, costing $300.00, let alone the rips in the counch, broken chairs and scratches on everything.

With Sincere Disrespect for White Glove Moving Company in New Jersey.
