In July 2010 I injured my wrist during law enforcement training. My insurance has a $150 co pay for an ER visit and only $30 for an urgent care facility so I found a nearby urgent care center (it was after hours so I could not go to my primary doctor). I was seen by a doctor and had x-rays done.  When I received a $20 bill from the radiologist and a $143 bill from Rex I thought it was a simple mistake. After speaking with Rex's billing department and my insurance carrier I found that Rex had coded the x-ray as if it was done at Rex Hospital (30 miles away) not at the urgent care facility so it was a separate charge applied to my deductible instead of being included in the co pay. In other words, Rex was double dipping - charging my insurance company and charging me personally for the visit. It would have been less expensive for me just to go to the ER!  I have spoken with Rex Healthcare's billing department twice now to no avail and filled a complaint with my insurance carrier BCBS. If you need after hours medical care DO NOT GO TO REX! It will cost you!
