I found Rhapsody Book Club on the internet while doing a search for romance book clubs. At the time, they offered a special for 6 books for 99 cents plus shipping and handling.

I followed the proceedures, ordered six books, and waited. I was charged approximately 16 dollars for shipping on my order. A few days before Christmas, I got my order and found I was 3 books short!! I called the phone number and found that they did not have any record of my order, yet they had my name and address along with the account number. I told the woman on the other end that I wanted to cancel the membership. I couldn't remember what I had ordered, and it was not worth my time to order books from a club that didn't even have my order in the computer.

After much arguing to which I even threatened to report the company to the BBB, they finally cancelled the order, and even sent me a post card about a week later confirming that cancellation.I thought things were over with. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!

About 3 weeks later I got a package. I refused it and called them, once more confirming the account was cancelled. It still was.

3 more weeks go by and another package. I refuse it again..then nothing.

Last week I got a postcard from the post office saying they had a package. I went to the post office and told them I wanted to refuse it, which they did for me. And the final straw was today when I got yet another package!! I called, armed with my cancellation postcard and find out that I was LIED TO!!!

They never cancelled the account and expected me to pay for the books. I am not interested in this club, they offer no selection, and they charge too much.

I don't trust them to cancel the account again, and even though I've been assured that it has been as well as a letter being sent to me confirming as much, I think I am going to have to fight them until I am sure the account is closed.

Rhapsody Book Club Shady Practices

#2Consumer Comment

Mon, March 29, 2004

I joined this book club based on a deal where I got several books for $1. It was near the end of my 'contract' that this company started to charge my credit card account for books ordered without my authorization. When I contacted them and told them I wanted it credited back to my account they told me they could not do it and that I would have to go through my credit card company. This happened on TWO occasions. I warn any consumer not to use this company.
