Had a brand new Rheem split heat pump system installed at a property I purchased in 2006. Rheem evidently won't honor the 5 yr warranty on this sytem for any reported manufacturing defects. Per the HVAC service technician making the repair their factory incorectly tie-wrapped a bundle of electrical wires to a compressor freon line inside the outdoor unit during their manufacturing process. The insulation on one of the electrical wires in this bundle then rubbed through due to normal operating vibration. The exposed bare wire then arced against the copper freon line resulting in a pin hole in the line. When I contacted Rheem customer service about paying for the $325 service repair bill to fix this problem they actually had the audacity to blame their obviously poor workmanship and/or manufacturing defect on the original heat pump installation contractor because he did not properly check and re-route these wires for them? Told me they would not pay anything for this repair since the contractor did not need any parts which is total BS in my opinion. This is now the second repair required on this same heat pump system that is less than 3 years old. Last year I had to pay $120 in labor to have an outdoor condensor fan and capacitor replaced in the same unit because they burned out? Appears to me this particualr Rheem split heat pump system is nothing but junk and Rheem customer service could care less. Buyer Beware!
