Right On Time Moving 3 weeks late and damages $2000 worth of my things.
In January of 2001 I hired Right On Time Moving (ROT) to move my household items from Walnut Creek, CA to Logan, UT. The estimated time of delivery was 4 days. It took them 3 weeks.
When they finally arrived, almost all the boxes were severely damaged (photos available upon request), thus damaging many items inside the boxes including a notebook computer, microwave oven, computer monitor, and others.
The most expensive item we had was our King size Simmons mattress. It was about 3 months old at the time and in perfect condition. It cost almost $1,000. When ROT unloaded the mattress I was shocked to see that it was totally bent out of shape. It looked as if they had just thrown it in storage in an upright position then let it fall part way over while heavy boxes were piled on top of it (photos available upon request). Needless to say, it was totally damaged and rendered worthless.
I contacted ROT several times every month. In all the months since then I have been promised many times that they would return my calls. That only happened once. All the other times they DID NOT so much as send me an email or phone message. They have spent months dragging out this claim and finally today I called Antoinette of their claims dept. (she was supposed to call me of course) and she said that they had issued a check to me in the amount of around $200. For about $2000 worth of damage and being 3 weeks late on the delivery they are sending me a check for a measly $200. I am appalled.
Their service has been atrocious from the start and they are obviously taking advantage of consumers. I was told that the cost of moving included $15,000 worth of insurance. Now they tell me that it is based on a per pound basis, not actual cash value.

I CAN STRUT MY STUFF BECAUSE I DON'T MAKE THE LAWS WE JUST HAVE TO FOLLOW THEM IT IS THE CONSUMERS WHO VOTE FOR THE SAID LAWS TO BE PASSED. SO BEFORE YOU JUDGE I NEVER ONCE SAID IT WAS RIGHT. DO YOU THINK THAT MOVERS DAMAGE THINGS ON PURPOSE. THATS WHY THERE CALLED ACCIDENTS. AND ALOT OF TIMES CONSUMERS ARE GIVEN THE OPTION OF ADDITIONAL INSURANCE. AND MOST OF THE TIME THEY WAIVE IT BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT TO PAY THE ADDITIONAL COST. THEY RATHER BE COVERED BY THERE HOMEOWNERS OR RENTERS INSURANCE.

In any other industry, you people would do jail time, but for some insane reason, the moving industry basically has an open season on consumers.
You sit there and quote the fact that she took the base insurance, which as you and I both know is almost worthless, of .6 cents per pound. Yes, that is the legally required amount of coverage that you have to give her. However, before you get too smug, that hardly makes you a saint for giving it.
You smashed some very valuable items that belong to her. If you just walked into her house and did that, you could be arrested. But because you are a moving company, you're given special treatment. It may be legal, but it's got nothing to do with being right. The bottom line is you still smashed her stuff and are offering her the pittance required by law, so I don't see that you have anything to strut your stuff about lady.
As a note to consumers, don't do business with companies like this, and always get your own moving insurance to cover your items. The legally required amount is pitiful as you can see. And so is this company.
