I hired this company to build a deck. I gave them a detailed diagram. There was a signed contract. I supplied the materials. I had to fire them once I learned the deck was not square, observed shoddy, sloppy work and several code violations. The joist span is too long, there is a 9 1/2 foot span bewteen two of the piers, the main beam is spliced on several sections, no flashing installed behinf ledger board, wrong screws used for the post braket to post connection and more. There were no piers for the landing for the ramp or the railng for the steps. They told me to get 8" concrete tubes. I learned that was too small for 6" brackets so I retuned the 8" and purchased 12" tubes.  I had the Will County inspector come out and he verified the code violations. He provided me with a written report in an email. I had to fix some of their work. For example they didn't backfill the piers. They just kicked some clay around the top. I have vidoe showing this. I had to pound the J bolts down some as they were too high. The general contractor, Rigoberto Bautista, never came out to look at the work after promising to do so several times via text messages. He just attempted to gaslight me, bully me, threaten me, harass me and blackmail me. He was scared to come out because he knows his guys didn't know what they were doing! I also learned he never obtained the proper permits from the county. I also learned he's not registered or bonded with the county. My guess is he has no insurance, isn't bonded and isn't approved by most or all of the towns and counties he does work in.  He apparantly doesn't believe in getting permits because the work would have to be done correctly, safely and to code because the work would be inspected after certain phases. Always make sure the contractor is approved by the village or county, has a bond, is licensed and obtain a copy of insurance, general liability and workers comp. Be sure the subcontractors are approved, licensed, bonded and insured as well. I have learned of a few jobs he did where permits were never obtained. My guess is he rarely, if ever, gets permits. This way he can hire hacks because the work won't be inspected. I will add several pics soon.
