Complaint Review: Rita Rathburn

Okay, this "lady" is something else.  Our company put a deposit on a purchase a property, the Pere Marquette Campground in Marquette, MI and proceeded into negotiations with the property owners who then advised us that they had just previously signed with a real estate agent.  We acknowledgeed and attempted communications through here, passing questions, making appointments etc.  The answer to questions were botched, truncated and formed in how she thought they should be formed, instead of the actual truth.  In order to get to the truth on some matters, we found it necessray to have to pick up the phone and talk to the owners themselves.

She was dead set against the deal for $299,000 when she felt the property was worth $349,000 (that is what she had it listed for on her crappy website).

Next, she never wanted to show up to appointments, trying to work things around her schedule instead of a company willing to purchase property from her clients.  Too many Bible meetings for her, I guess.

Anyway, speaking of God and religion, when we did meet she prayed over the meeting and made the appearances of being honest and forthright.  She was a pleasant person, but her promises did not equal her performance.  A typical scam by realtors like this is to present paperwork that is botched (to their clients benefit of course) and agreed in oral converstaions to correct the error but sign here.  We did, knowing full well that there was a meeting of the minds to correct the error.  Never happened and in future conversations she painted things like they never happened, confusing us, the potential buyers.

Next and I think floored us the most is that she continued a string of emails and phone messages that painted history in the way she wanted it to be.  A call like, "hey, you remember when we talked about...." and "be sure and do this as I mentioned".  And those topics were never talked about, ever.  She made stuff up and lied to get her clients postition better and better, I guess thinking that she assumed we would agree.  Religion is not that powerful, sorry....

The bible says,  "A good name is to be chosen than great riches".  She must have missed that part.  She is very SCAMMY, in our opinion DISHONEST and we had to walk away from the deal as a result.  The company is considering filing a lawsuit against her and the property owners as a result for the company's loss of this opportunity.

She didn't want the deal to work and kept the site for sale on her website the entire time (months).  No SALE PENDING nothing.

STEER CLEAR OF THIS ONE.  The company she works for now, Traverse North Realty tried to blotch up her mess but to no avail.  They used duress to get someone who had a personal stake in the deal to sign an agreement to get a return of funds, but they did not sign a settlement with the company.  The company is coming after her for her fraud, shadiness and the fact that the deal fell through as a result.
