I have never done that before but ordered a small amount of Halloween stuff this year. I received yesterday a totally different package.

I wrote to customer service after being unable to find any record of my original order. I heard nothing. So I called customer service today (9/21/2013).

Here is what I was told, very one-sided on Rite Aid's favor:

I was told that they are using a separate shipping vendor for holiday stuff. I was told to PAY to ship back their merchandise, then call them back to have my order refunded.

Which, by the way, what happened to my original order? Some manager somewhere decided to cancel it with no knowledge on my part. They claim they will also refund the postage fees that I will incur.

I told them, no I will not do that. I should be able to get my order that they messed up refunded immediately, or replaced and they should send me a shipping label to ship their stuff back.

They then said they could not do that and that they would have a manager call me--in 2 - 3 business days. Well, I am not home then. So I am in Rite Aid Limbo Hell.

I have no idea if they charged me for my original order or the wrong and much more expensive order. They had no sense of customer service, of integrity or even of honesty except for admitting that they will not use the shipping service again.

Oh, yes, and I was also told that unless I also include my original order number in the package going to some costume company with the costumes that I receive erroneously, I would never receive a refund. How can I trust them with my original order information when they can cancel it indiscriminately and make it look, on my account, like I never ordered anything at all?

Nice, Rite Aid, real nice. I think I will stop shopping Rite Aid all together.  And, by the way, when I check my account, since no record of my order exists, I cannot even tell if I used my credit or debit card.
