I have some coinage that I was interested in selling. I have never sold any of this type of material before so I am new to this type of business. I called Roanoke Coin Exchange to ask if they bought the type of coins that I had and if he could tell me what kind of prices I could expect. The fellow was very abrupt and rude even on the phone saying brusquely that "all deals are made in the store" or something to that effect.

Well, first of all, I wasn't trying to make a deal at that point, just trying to get some idea of how they valued things. At any rate, I decided to go to the store and see.

A nice young woman greeted me at the counter. When I told her that I was interested in selling a couple of coins, she immediatedly called to a man in the back, apparently the fellow that I had talked to on the phone. I had the coins layed out on the counter when he came up. He immediatedly asked, "What do you want for them." Again, quite brusquely and rude. I responded that I didn't exactly know. I told him where I had purchased the coins and what that place(a private mint) was currently offering for them.

He practiclly exploded and said in a raised dismissive voice, "Well, I'm not paying that!" So, I said, "Okay, then what will you offer?" He then again gruffly said, "What's your bottom line?!" I responded, "I don't really know. I haven't done this before." He just seemed to get more and more agitated, saying "Well, you already know what you want for them, mailing them off will cost you $___(I couldn't hear him).

The bottom line is that he was being incredibly rude and obnoxious from the very beginning. I had told him that I didn't know how any of this normally worked. I was asking for his help but he was completely adversarial from the get-go. I knew basically what the coins were worth but I realized that he wasn't going to give me that amount as he needs to make a profit but I had no idea how that works in his type of business as the value of the coins changes on a daily basis.

After about the third exchange with him I just said forget it and packed up the coins to leave. He walked away. All I can say is that I would NOT recommend doing business with this store and particularily this individual. I do not know what his problem is but he is just an incredibly rude individual. It certainly is not because he is so busy. I was the only one in the store. Go figure.

Anyway, Take your business elsewhere. Do NOT go to the ROANOKE COIN EXCHANGE.
