Robinsons May Don't ever get divorced Discrimination against females Brea California
Well ladies, don't ever get divorced. I had a May company account for 18+ years which was in excellent standing. Got divorced back in 1997, and Robinson-May closed my account without my permission. I found this out one day while shopping at the store. Back in 1987, I had added my 'new' husband to MY account and he called to have the account closed when the divorce was final.
I sent Robinson-May a two page letter with photocopied checks dating back to 1992, with MY name only, MY signature and proof of this being MY account originally. I even inquired about the 'womans' rights on this issue. Does the MAN have a right to dictate the account closure? I had the same income he did! Guess what? NO RESPONSE, not even a letter of acknowledgement.
When I called the credit department for follow up, I was basically told that it was no big deal to come in a reapply for a measly 200.00 line of credit! With a perfect payment history of 18+ years that I established when I was 19 this response was absolutely ridiculous!
Today is 2002 and I have only shopped at Robinsons May three times since 1997, only because I had to. Macy's has my business; I was treated with respect there.
