We purchased a 2003 Ford Expedition from " good deal @###" at Rockenbach Chevy in Grayslake, IL. The Vehicle was good except for a broken vanity mirror on the drivers side."good deal @###" our charming salesperson asssured us that he would have the mirror replaced if we bought the vehicle and all we would have to do is make an appointment with the service dept. and they would take care of the problem. We asked about something on the contract in writing when we sat down with the finance manager and our "good deal" salesperson asurred us he would take care of us on this matter.

Well as you can imagine they denied promising anything after the fact. They claimed that since nothing was in the deal bag that they would not honor the repair. Moral of the story... make sure that everything that comes out of a salesmens mouth is in writting, no matter how trivial it seems at the time. Taking notes would be a good idea, and DO NOT SIGN A SINGLE THING UNTIL EVERYTHING is in writting because they will promise you anything to make a sale without having any intention of keeping that promise.

Lesson learned The salesperson has no say what-so-ever

#2Consumer Suggestion

Sat, July 09, 2005

Sadly, you're absolutely right. The salesperson has no say what-so-ever on what can or can't be repaired on a sold unit. The sales manager would be the one to make that call, and the finance manager would pretty much just look at you and shrug if you brought it up to him/her, telling you to speak to the salesperson.

Fortunately, this is a pretty cheap lesson. You could either replace the visor (Prolly run you around $200 or so assuming it's a lighted vanity) or just stick a clip-on mirror on the broken visor and not worry about it.

Of course it would be the right thing to do for the sales manager to honor the verbal promise of your salesperson, but they're under no obligation to fix anything. Personally I'd just call the General Manager of the store, refer them to this Report, and see if they're willing to fix this for you if you'll post a response saying you were satisfied. For a measly $200, I'm pretty sure they'd make the right decision and do right by you. And remember, more flies with honey- don't threaten or yell, just calmly and professionally state the facts. If you go in 'guns-a-blazing' they're going to just blow you off.

Hope this helps!
