Complaint Review: Rocky Mountain Biewer Terriers

Rocky Mountain Biewer Terriers Jared and Karen Hansen They sold me a sick puppy and lied about it. Dorlores Colorado

I flew to Cortez to bring home a Biewer Terrier from breeders Jared and Karen Hansen on Thursday, March 22.  The puppy was coughing, but they assured me that it was simply a reaction to a bordetella vaccine they had given it the day before.  They gave me two antibiotic pills to give the puppy over the next two days.

I took the puppy to my vet the next day on Friday, March 23.  He said the puppy was not reacting to a bordetella shot but instead was ill with bronchitis.  In other words, Karen and Jared Hansen lied to me about the health of the puppy I bought from them.  My vet has been treating the puppy for the last two weeks and the puppy is not recovering.

I take the puppy to the vet every day.  The vet even opened his office on Easter after church to treat the puppy.  I have called and texted Karen and Jared Hansen, but they do not answer my calls nor respond to my texts.

Yes, the puppy reacted to an intranasal bordetella vaccine and developed a cough overnight. On March 20, 2018, the buyer informed us that she would book a flight for March 29, 2018, to pick up her puppy. That would be in 9 days.

We vaccinated the puppy for bordetella so she would be able to take the puppy to the groomers, where a bordetella vaccine was required. Later in the day, she messaged us that she had booked a different flight for March 22, 2018. In less than 24 hours.

When we notified her about the puppy having a cough and that we'd rather send him on a later date, she responded that her flight was non-refundable. Since she changed her travel plans to arrive 7 days earlier, we had no chance to take the puppy back to the vet. The buyer was fully aware of the situation.

A week later she wrote this ripoff report. We called her and asked why she would do that and she explained that she has been texting our landline but we did not respond. We explained to her that our landline does not receive text messages and that she could have simply called us. She was very sorry about the situation and wrote an email to RippOff to remove her report.

She received a response stating that reports cannot be removed but that she could send some kind of explanation and RippOff would decide if they would post that on their website or not. They decided not to post it.

I am attaching the following documents to this rebuttal:

  • text message communication with the buyer, showing that she changed her flight without notice to us.
  • text message communication showing that we did inform her of the problem.
  • email from the buyer that shows how it was a misunderstanding because she was trying to text our landline and got upset because we didn't respond
  • email from the buyer showing that she would like to return the dog
  • proof of the full refund that we issued when the buyer asked to return the dog months later

The end of the "complaint" is that a couple months later, she contacted us again and explained that her other dog does not get along with the puppy and she feels that she's not able to care for it in an appropriate way. The puppy was only 2.5 lbs and about 10 months old. We did not ask any questions or made it a problem.
We went on an 8-hour car ride and picked up the puppy and issued a full refund!
