I received my phone bill with charges from ESBI/Roctel
Corporation on it for the amount of $14.95 plus .45 cents in taxes. It was categorized as long distance, but I have a seperate company that I pay long distance to.

I called the service number and asked them what the charges were for. The customer service rep told me it was for a 1-800 privacy plus VM number. I am a residential customer, I do not own my own business and would never have use for a number like this. I wouldn't even know what you would use this type of number for!

I asked the Roctel Rep why I would get charged for this and she told me I signed up for it. I asked her how I signed up for it and asked her to prove it with documentation. She didn't have any proof or could look up any documents where I had acknowleged this type of service.

I told her it was fraud and to remove the charges immediately from my phone bill. She said she had removed the charges from my phone bill and I would be getting a credit.

The Roctel Rep gave me her name and a confirmation number telling me that the service had been cancelled. I also contacted Roctel by email, telling them of the fraudulent situation and made my point clear to remove all charges from my telephone account.

My next phone bill comes and I am charged $14.95 plus .45 in taxes, yet again for a service I did not sign up for or request!!! I immediately contacted them again by email. I also left a message on there customer service phone line to contact me immediately.

I have yet to hear from them, but let's put a stop to these fraudulent business practices of companies like Roctel. I have heard complaints about them before illegally taking personal information over the internet in order to have you subscribe to their service.

Update on Roctel/ESBI Corporation

After several emails and telephone calls, a representative from Roctel did call me and said that they did show a cancellation of their service on June 16th 2006, by one of their cust reps., Judy.

I was still charged the following month for this ridiuclous service. I asked, if the service was cancelled, why did I get another charge on my phone bill? The Roctel Representative said and I quote, "Your phone company has rejected and blocked our request to cancel this service."

Of course this sounds like a bunch of crap, so I called my local telephone company, Embarq, and explained to their representative what Roctel had just told me. The Embarq representative actually laughed about what Roctel had told me about rejecting to cancel services.

According to the Embarq representative, Roctel made no attempt to contact them about the cancellation of this service. Embarq promptly put my phone number on a block from their services and set up dispute claims for the charges that were previously charged to my phone bill from this company.

Hooray! Thanks Embarq~ I should have called them in the first place! Now, the hard part is waiting another month to see if Roctel decides they want to charge me again for this stupid privacy plus voicemail.
