I bought a brand new Kia Sedona minivan in 2007. I should have known better when the sales people were playing the good cop vs bad cop game trying to pressure me in to buying NOW! They did not have to do that, as I wanted to buy anyways!. After negotiations the price ended at $26K. Then I went to the financing person, to sign the paper work. After pulling my credit, he said that he had pre approved me for a 12% - HOWEVER !!!!!! if I financed more than 28 K they would be able to place me with On- Point Community Credit Union as they had a 6.5% rate. I consider myself a smart person and I knew that was a $4k difference in finance charges. So I asked, "what is the catch" and he just gave me a BS story about how On-Point had a minimum balance for that preferred rate.
So they sold me their after market, bunch of crap- Oil changes- extended warranty, etc.
"IT IS GOING TO BE FREE AFTER ALL"- said the finance person - as it would cost more to finance at 12% if I didn't get the stuff.
When I found out, that On Point's rate is not dependent on balance; I called them and confronted them about it, and even left a voice mail for Mr. Tonkin about the issue. They not only ignored me, but made fun of me! I gave them a chance to do it right. They couldn't have not cared less! Thank God for the Rip-Off report who is now giving, us consumers, a way to let others know about the crappy businesses out there. Ron
