I paid $4000 to Roni Lynn Deutch in 2001 when my husband was laid off of his job and I was attending college to receive my teaching credential and was told by April (one of the paralegals) that we would only have to pay $55 on a $40,000 tax debt by filing an Offer In Compromise with the IRS.

No work was completed by Roni Lynn Deutch. All I received were harassing phone calls by their accounting department. I paid the retainer on time and once the retainer was paid I was constantly asked to provide more information. Everytime I called to see what the status of my case was I never received a return phone call. I have had to call the IRS myself to place myself and my husband as non-collectible.

Now we are both back at work and we are no longer in the position to file an offer in compromise. The IRS has filed a tax lien against us and will soon be trying to collect money that we shouldn't have had to pay since we were in such a bad financial position and on welfare, etc. Now we've incurred more debt which the IRS doesn't consider and our lives and credit are ruined because of this attorney.

The attorney's conduct notwithstanding

The attorney's conduct notwithstanding you are $40,000.00 in debt to the IRS. Were you told you would only pay $55.00 total or $55.00 a month on a payment plan?

Offers in Compromise are highly touted by unsrupulous "tax attorney's" and other's "registered" to represent you before the IRS. In reality the IRS accepts only a small percentage of OIC's and most of those are for individuals who have no hope of ever paying the debt owed. In short, the only way an offer is accepted is if the total of your current assets, current and future income are less than the balance owed. Additionally you must have exhausted ALL other options to pay the debt (i.e. payment plans, available credit lines etc.).

Filing the OIC involves completion of a large stack of forms and providing proof of your income at the time. It is tedious and time consuming but as long as you read the instructions provided it is something you can certainly do without an attorney. The IRS formula used for calculating your "future income" is a mystery to anyone but them.

Depending on your income now, you still may be eligible for a payment plan or the OIC itself. The tax lien itself is only one step. As you are working if you have not entered into a payment plan or some other arrangement you may quickly find your wages garnished with no recourse and any funds you have in bank accounts can be seized at any time the debt is still owing.

If you have not already done so I would also file a complaint against the attorney with the Bar Association and the IRS.

Laura,

Have you read all of the complaints against that "attorney"? She is a scam artist, and as far as I know the entire family are all scam artists in the same scam.

She needs to get dis-barred. It's not that hard to do. And she needs to be sued!!

That was blatant misrepresentation and outright lies, as usual!

Shut her down!!
