I never received a written signed contract or a receipt for the check I wrote from Roof Hawk.

I received many estimates from Roof Hawk none of which were the final agreed upon price. I negotiated a better price with Roof Hawk after I received a few cheaper competitive bids. The final price being $450.00 dollars less than this estimate.

The estimate it does not explain the ridge application or the underlayment process. I discussed the underlayment process with Richard and understood I would receive the best application possible which would be the one for a 4:12 and less roof.

Proof of the issues we have:
gaf.com/Residential_Roofing/Shingles/Timberline_Natural_Shadow/Timberline_Application_Instructions_English_Only.PDF This PDF shows the application procedures from the manufacturer.

Page 4 “Along eaves, put GAF Leak Barrier on top of non-corrosive metal drip edge” This was not one on any of my eaves! Only Tiger Paw was installed along the rake and eaves. This is wrong!

Page 5 says “ Place first course of shingles 1/4" – 3/4" (6–19 mm) over eave and rake edges, covering starter course overhang, to provide drip edge”  I measured my roof overhang with a tape measure showing almost 1.5 inches of overhang. This is wrong!

I never expected my ridge would look unfinished, as I have never heard a roofing contractor claim they install a partial ridge vent per manufacturer’s specifications. You can see the three different explanations Richard gave me for my ridge. 1 That is was the optimum rigde vent per manufacturer's specifications. 2 That I knew how much ridge vent they were putting on. 3 That they gave me a budget roof. All is worng Roof Hawk was teh Highest Bid we recieved!

gaf.com/Roofing/Residential/Products/Shingles/Timberline/High_Definition You can see the Manufacturer does not install ridge halfway across a ridge. If you look at any pictures at GAF website there is no roof ridge installed partially on a ridge unless it joins a hip or other ridge! I spoke with the manufacturer and they also told me that my ridge is done improperly.

Richard came by the second day before the crew was finished, because I asked him to come look and told him that I had problems with the installation. Without inspecting any of the work he then asked me for a check of $7,000.00. He told me that they were not doing what I had expected on the underlayment and laughed about the improper nailing patterns said “they have to do it fast”. I felt I had no choice but to let them finish. My roof was torn off and I was in a construction loan with a bank deadline to finish the house.

After the roof installation I decided Roof Hawk would not be installing guttering on my house. I told Richard we decided against guttering and wanted to leave our fascia exposed.

Wow the crew left us with a giant mess after I rescued them from dumping shingles in my neighborhood. The crew also left many nails and shingles pieces in my yard and we are still finding nails and shingles pieces every time we mow. The crew put ladders on my starter row and ruined some shingles on the starter row. They are curled over, loosing gravel and beginning to breakafter only 6 months

During the painting process I had to get on the roof; I had to look at every aspect of the roof and discovered that there were many more errors on my roof. More errors than I could accept for such an expensive roof.

I was mistaken to think I could trust Roof Hawk. Now I am in this predicament because I trusted them. I was fooled into thinking I would have a long term business relationship with Richard Barnett.

I am a remodeling contractor, I am used to doing business with professional sub-contractors with no written exact contract. Richard knows what he sold me and what I received. He knows there is a big problem with my roof. There is no dispute about that. The problem is that Roof Hawk can not produce what they sold. I was told verbally that the crew was trained and certified by GAF, this is not true. I was told there was a special air compressor they used with a special regulator, this is not true. It is a normal job site air compressor.

The only problem is Roof Hawk is used to uninformed customers, which I am not one of them. Roof Hawk was aware of this from the beginning and told me they would charge me more because I would be too picky.

I wanted to accept this roof but it is already failing and breaking down due to improper installation procedures and no supervision. Sadly, I liked Richard, but just can’t swallow accepting a patched up roof from his company. I paid for a new one!

The manufacturer told me my roof was completely wrong and that I would have problems with it. They told me they could NOT warranty the workmanship but that the shingles were covered. So when the shingles start leaking because of improper installation the shingles are covered but not the labor. That is why I asked for a refund of the amount over the cost of the material. There is no way to properly repair this roof without correctly installing a new roof from the underlayment to the ridge. So it is completely fair that Roof Hawk refund me the amount over the material I have paid.

Richard told me he would give me $500.00 dollars and that "he saw no reason for my roof to Fail".
