Rooms To Go Rip-off would not deliver Greensboro North Carolina
Before I ordered my furniture (a leather couch, chair, & ottoman) on Wed. Nov. 20, 2002, I had them to check on the delivery date. I was told my furniture could be delivered on Tuesday, November 26th. I explained that since I was having guest over Thanksgiving that I had to be sure it would be delivered - they said "not a problem" but that I would need to be home all day because they didn't know what time they would be in my area and the drivers would not call.
I told my boss that I would need Tuesday off. On Friday, November 22nd there was a message left on my voice mail that the furniture would be delivered between 4pm &
8 pm Tuesday, Nov. 26th. We carried out the old couch on Sunday so the delivery guys would not have to deal with any old stuff. I called Tuesday morning to give more specific directions and to confirm the time.
Tuesday, November 26th- we waited for the furniture. At 7:00 pm, a call came in from the distribution center in GA. The drivers were running an hour and a half behind and they were in Asheboro (45 minutes from my house). At 10:04 pm, the lady called again and wanted to know if her drivers were at my house. I said no. She could not get the drivers to answer the phone. I explained that I would wait because I had to have that furniture by Wed. because of family coming in. I asked her to call me back. No call came. I went to bed at 1:15 am.
Wednesday, November 27th - @ 8:00 I started calling Rooms to Go. They told me that the driver got sick and took the furniture back to Charlotte, NC ( 2 - 2 1/2 hours from my house). I explained that I had to have it and that I was told it would be delivered on Tuesday. Since the delivery was not made then - I felt it should be delivered the next day. They refused. Said the routing did not allow for that.
At 10:00 am, I called the store in Greensboro (where the furniture was ordered from). I offered to come to Greensboro and get what was on the floor - just until mine could be delivered. Was told NO. Sorry, nothing can be done.
I called back later and offered to go to Charlotte and get my furniture if they would knock $500.00 off my bill. I was told that $420.00 was the best they could do. I asked for a fax to be sent showing this was deducted - as of 12/3/02 I still have not received the fax.
At 1:15 pm, I left going to Charlotte to get my needed furniture. After backed up traffic, several accidents, and road construction, we finally arrived at Rooms to Go in Charlotte at 5:15 pm. It should not have taken more than 2 to 2 1/2 hours to get there or home.
Around 6:00 pm, we left. On the way back, once again the traffic was horrible. When we reached the Yadkin River Bridge on Interstate 85, my chair flew out the back of the truck. We called the highway patrol for assistance. Road Side Assistance helped a man load my chair into his moving van. He said it was his. (no proof) They were told that it was two women on their way to get it. By the time we got there it was gone. We met with a local deputy sheriff - he said there was nothing he could do. No one will write a statement or acknowledge that they received the calls about this problem.
Please note that if they would have just made their delivery - NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED!!!!
After crying the rest of the way home - I finally got back to my house around 10:45pm.
My mother and I then tried to unload the couch (which the delivery guy would have done if they had kept up their end of the deal) and sat it on my son's kitten. We thought we had broken his neck and leg. What a way to end the day. Way to go -ROOMS TO GO.
I understand that the chair flying out of the truck - it was strapped on - was not their fought - but if they had just delivered the stupid furniture - THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. Now I will be paying for a couch and ottoman that has caused me a great deal of grief, two days of missed work, and I will be paying for a chair that another man claimed was his - I hope it's it splinters and that he had a Happy Thanksgiving. I sure did not. Thank you Rooms to Go and to the man who "stole" my chair.
