Company offered a hotel stay, which I booked. At the time I had alternate plans, which I then cancelled, incurring $100 in cancellation fees. I did this because I had booked a stay through Rooms101. After I "booked" I actually got a notice saying that in actuality I would get final details 3 days prior to travel. I then read on the Internet and on their policy that says:

"In the event that the resort developer has determined that your selected travel dates have become unavailable, Rooms101 reserves the right to offer substitute accomodations of equal or greater value if such accomodations are available, or issue a full refund of the amount paid to Rooms101 excluding any fees that incurred for previous reservation modifications."

I then researched the web. On BBB in particular, they have a rating of "F" - see here: http://www.bbb.org/central-florida/business-reviews/travel-agencies-and-bureaus/mba-marketing-in-ormond-beach-fl-100969.

I then reached out asking what this was, and why this was and why no one told me when booking that this is how it worked. In fact when I gave the credit card info I was told I would receive confirmation that night - which I didn't for several days, and then to be told that this was all "to be determined" was a real disconnect.

I then get a call back from a manager who sounds like a teenager (I am certain that he did this without management awareness) - who says he "doesn't like my attitude," that "they don't want to send people who are likely to be unhappy on their vacations," that they were going to cancel my "booked trip" and issue a reimbursement (still not reimbursed). Nowhere in their policy does it state that they can just randomly cancel a "booked trip" on their whim for any reason. Again, the reason he states is that "he doesn't like my attitude."

Also at the start of the process - this next part isn't so much a rip-off as ridiculously poor customer service - they only take voicemails and must call back, making for a ridiculously inefficient process (over 11 total calls); and in the middle of the process they say participants must sit for a 2 hour sales presentation (deeply annoying when you are paying $699 in the first place).
