our family was planning a trip tot he colorado mountains for a vacation. we looked up the royal gorge area and was directed to the Royal Gorge Jellystone Park Camp Resort! in Cnanon city, Colorado.

We called and spoke to a rep their, not an owner. I explained that we need camping for six people and an rv site. she quoted me a ratef 21.oo for the campground for seven nights and 38.oo a night for the rv site for 7 nghts. we make the reservation and gave a deposit of one nights stay for both sites. she said that she would mail us some information and confirmation.

Six days later we still had not received the info, so i called back on Sunday July 13th and spoke with a woman who said she was the owner. Rudely, she toldme that she did the mailing and that she had mailed the literature out. I then asked her about adding a third tent to our campsite, She told me that their policy as that only one tent was allowed and our reservation was for one tent. I explained that I had told the reservation lady a week prior that we woudl have two tents. this woman then rudely told me that was not the case. I explained that we neede to put upthree tens and also had a rv. she toldme about additinal charges: each tent would cos 7 more dollars with alimit of tow per site and each person over two would cost 5 dollars per person. I asked if we could put the third tent on the rvf site. she said yes for extra money. I explained toher that was expesive, she then hung up on me. I called back and told that the her husband would call me back.

he called me back about 20 minutes laer. He went over the costs with me in a very nice conversatinal tone,. then he told me that I was rud etohis wife. I explained that this wife was rude to me and that she hung up on me. he then sai that if i got tohis private property park with an attitude he would ask me to leave and call the sheriff to have my familiy removed from his park. At htis piont I simply told him to go ahead and cancel our reservation.

he then told me tha the would cancel our reservation but charge us 20 dollars for doing so. I told him that in no way was I going to pay him for his wife being rude and him not wanting us there. So I told him to keep our reservation and not cancell it . It was then he said, no, I do not want you on my property, you and your family are not welcome. I said in that case then refund our money. He said he would still keep 20 dollar sof our money regardless.

i asked him how he ws going to cancel our resevation at his discretion and still charge us a cancellation fee? he said to badd

Of course I am filing a complaint with the chamber of commerce there and also with the attoerny general's ofice and file a dispute with my credit card company.

This guy and his park is a big rip off.

by the way, all his camping is on gravel, rv sites on gravel, tent camping is on gravel which they will not tell you until after they have your paid reservation, also, no treees.

Rebuttal from ripoff report from Mr. Raymond Clarksvile

#2REBUTTAL Owner of company

Wed, August 20, 2008

On July 14th, 2008 I recieved a call from Mr. Raymond Clarksvile that he had a reservation at our campground. Upon looking into the computer to check this reservation he did have two sites reserved. Our policy and rates are based on the two adults and the first two children are free. We do allow one tent on site for this rate with the two above mention campers. Each site is allow 6 people on it but all our rates are based on the two adults and the first two children are free. Each extra tent is $7.00 per night with additional cost of the people in the extra tent. When Mr. Clarksvile called he was very upset with this charge of the extra tents and the people who was in the tent. I tried to tell him this was our rate and it is posted on every liteture we have about our park. I would not back off this price and that is when he became very rude and he was using ugly language to me which I don't put up with nor do I expect any of my employees to have to listen to. When he kept trying to tell my how I should run my business and I was a rip off I did hang up on Mr. Clarkvile and would hang up on anyone who uses this kind of language with me. I told my husband about it and ask if he would call this man back and he did. When they first started talking everything was very nice and then Mr. Clarksvile got very rude and the language started again once he saw that we would not back off of our rates so that is when my husband told him he would cancel his reservation and to camp elsewhere. We as owners of this campground have the right to turn anyone who we feel will not enjoy staying here and start off before arrival giving us a hard time. Everyone is welcome to our campground and we do have lots of fun here but it is a family park and we will not allow people with an attitude to use bad language and tell us how to run our own park. When you camp in the Rocky Mountains you will be on rocky ground but all our sites have road base fines on them and our tent sites we do have trees on them. However Mr. Clarksvile stated that we have no trees and once you paid for your site that is when you were told we had no trees and rocks on all our sites. Mr. Clarksvile didn't come camping here so how would he know we didn't have trees and we didn't tell him we had rocks on our site. I am a very honest person and I go out of my way to serve my campers the best experience they could have at our campground. If anyone chooses to look up our campground on the internet they will find it is a lovely campground and everything is in black and white as far as the rates go.
