I had accumulated a lot of credit card debt during college, and was unable to pay my bills as the interest rates only kept going up. I signed up with a debt settlement company called Credit Solutions, and my creditors were supposed to negotiate through CS, since they had my power of attorney.

Instead, Bank of America contacted Rubin and Rothman to handle my case. They froze my checking account for 3 weeks, and made me come up with a large sum of money to pay them off. Now I have to pay the rest of my debt at $600 a month with 10% interest! If I had that money to begin with, I never would have been in this situation!

The lawyer I speak with on a regular basis, Larry Burns, is obnoxious and unwilling to cooperate. He said that either I have to come up with $5,000 in two weeks, or I have to pay them $600 a month for the next three years. How can their law firm benefit if I wind up declaring bankruptcy as a result? Ridiculous, rude, and obnoxious.

I tried speaking with a lawyer, and it seems there is not much I can do. Any advice?

About 8 years ago, I purchased a new vehicle from Ford. About 13 months into the loan, I had to have the car repossesed due to financial difficulties from a messy divorce. Ford sent the account to Rubin and Rothman for them to try and collect money from me.

After 16+ months of failed negotiations with Rubin and Rothman, they decided to freeze my bank account, and refused to unfreeze it unless I made payment arrangement's under their terms. Knowing I needed my money to survive, I accepted their terms, and started making payments. As soon as I got the money, I stopped paying again.

HERE'S MY ADVICE TO YOU - They CAN NOT freeze a bank account UNLESS a judge signs something that allows them to. Call them up and ask them to mail you a copy of the paper with the judge's signature. If they do mail it to you, than you are out of gas. If they refuse, than they most likely dont have anything signed. What I would suggest doing is when you call them, try and record the conversation so you have some proof to show a lawyer.
