I too received a "REQUEST FOR PAYMENT" notice from North Shore Agency, Inc representing runner's World magazine. My deliquent notice informed me that they were a collection agency attempting to collect a debt on behalf of Runner's World Magazine. I did NOT renew my subscription for said magazine and had ignored all of the mailors from Runner's World to renew my subscription. However, this last notice of "this is an attempt to collect a debt" got my attention.

I called immediately and was told by the operator that I was on an "automatic renewal" policy. I requested a copy of my subscription where it showed I had signed up for this. The operator told me that she did not have that information. I then asked to speak to a supervisor. I was told one was not available. I demanded to speak to a supervisor. I was put on hold for over 20 minutes and no supervisor or anyone ever came back on the line. I also informed them that I had recorded the conversation a well.

The operator assured me that my subscription was now canceled and that I had not been reported to any credit reporting agency.

Very, very shady business. I hope Runner's World takes notice of this scam. I'll be sure to send a letter to Runner's World.
