This relatively smalltime, single location rental car location will boast via advertisements of the lowest daily rental rate in the area. This is true. They are very cheap! This will attract many potential cost conservative victims. As a recent customer/victim I wish to share my story in the hopes that others will not fall prey to the lucrative bait of Rusty Rentals low daily rate.

After renting a "rusty rental" which they define as "quality early model cars at wholesale prices" I returned the car already in poor cosmetic condition car to the lot -- in it's original state. Several hours after it's return I receive a phone call from the owners wife at which time she stated the car front bumper of the car had been damaged. I denied it, of course. The car got very little use. She promised a return call to follow up after reviewing the "inspection" tapes (whatever the hell that is).

After weeks had gone by with no return call, I assumed the tapes had confirmed the vehicle was already damaged and I gave it no more thought. Approximately one month later, I went to withdraw from my checking account only to find the account was overdrawn due to a debit card transaction from Rusty Rentals! The car was reserved with a Charge Card and paid with a debit card so they had access to my checking account. I called Rusty Rentals and was told they "took the liberty" of having the car repaired and deducting the funds from my checking.

I then "took the liberty" off blocking my cards and reversing the debit back to my account by filing a claim for unauthorized use! All is resolved to my favor, at this point, however I can't help but to wonder why my insurance company had not been contacted (as should always be the case in the event of a claim) and why I never got a call back to confirm damages? Hmmm...

Let the buyer beware when dealing with these types of business. Now I see why the daily rate was so low. They wait until your gone and THEN charge your account for COSMETIC DAMAGES to an already questionable car. In retrospect, for what I had been charged in false damage claims and overdraft fees I could have paid a higher daily rate for a NEW car, with a more reputable car rental location and came out financially ahead!

I have had a few customers comment about the fact that they have read this complaint. I first want to say that this situation is from 2002! Everything on the property is recorded, as well as vehicle condition. Pictures and documentation of all "cosmetic damage" is inspected while it's here, before it leaves, and when it is returned. If inspection reveals damage, all evidence (before and after rental) is review. If it is determined the vehicle was damaged while in your possession, you are responsible! The renter is responsible for the vehicle no matter if you hit something or something hits you. In response to the insurance claim, if there was full coverage you are still responsible for the deductible. If you have just liability you are responsible for any and all damages to the vehicle you are driving. 

All damages we do find can and will be proven to you. As far as the Unauthorized use of card... Legally its was Authorized!!!!

 If you plan to rent a vehicle and do not want to be responsible, Please do not rent here.
