I worked for RV Life, a magazine focusing on recreational vehicles. The owners, Ron “Diesel” Knudson his wife Toni Davis Knudson, wrote and published a number of health-related articles in the magazine. The pieces contained a number of grossly untrue scientific claims that were designed to boost sales for their health supplement business. When I showed them information from the American Medical Association that their claims were vastly untrue, they shrugged and said “it’s just business.” They used writing pseudonyms for these articles.

Ron knowingly cut questionable deals for himself in exchange for editorial coverage that wasn’t truthful. For example, a vendor who installed new windows for his truck was “paid” with a published article that contained misleading information.

I resigned from my position and explained the ethical reasons behind my decision. They retaliated by reporting me to Child Protective Services, alleging that I was abusing a young member of my family. Fortunately, I was able to demonstrate the accusations were completely false, but it was a horrible experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

Before you do business with this group, scrutinize them thoroughly. In particular, look into a lawsuit that a former publishing partner filed against Ron.
