I purchased a Ryland home from an original owner and had the home a couple of years before my roof began to leak.  A contractor said it was the result of shoddy workmanship and that there was no flashing under the rof.  Of course I have no idea what all that means, but the bottom line is that water had been seeping in for years because the roof was not built right to begin with, and it was going to require the removal of a beam all the way to the basement, and other repairs.  He also said he had worked with many homebuilders and no matter how many years had passed, the builders fixed problems that were problems that were caused from the initial workmanship.

First Ryland refused to admit they built the home.  Then they said that it was just over 10 years ago that the home was built and they were no longer liable.  So the bottom line is, even though Ryland now admints to having built the home and they know they built the home using shoddy workmanship, they won't fix the problem.

My contractor cannot believe this huge builder will not fix this as he has seen many shoddy workmanship issues fixed by the builder, no matter how long ago the home was built.

My best advice to anyone considering having a home built, is to buy from a company other than Ryland.

By the way, I'm retired military, my fiance is a former Marine and a retried law enforcement officer, so I hope all of you public service workers will stand with me and boycott this disreputable company.  I know I'll never consider a Ryland Home again.
