I needed insurance so I decided to try Safe Auto Insurance. After paying my down-payment and speaking with a extremely nice sales rep everything seemed okay. Then the first time they raised my rates, Safe Auto told me this was due to my ticket violations, and since I received my quote online I expected this and I was okay with this.

Then about two weeks later I received a letter in the mail saying that Safe Auto will have to increase my rates. I spoke with several different customer service representatives and they all told me that my rates were raised due to ticket violations. I responded saying that Safe Auto already raised my rates before due to my two ticket violations and what if any other violations are on my record. They could not answer this question.

About a week letter I received another letter in the mail stating that my rates are to increase again and to keep my current auto insurance policy I would have to pay a specific amount of money immediately. At this point I became frustrated with the customer service of this company and called them trying to get answers. After being told the exact same things as in my previous calls to Safe Auto, I asked to speak with the local manager.

I had a very irate conversation with this manager who started getting aggressive immediately and tried to verbally put me down. I am QUOTING the manager words "it's just forty more dollars a month can't you just pay it?" After hearing this I decided to ask for their legal counsel. I am a senior legal assistant in a law firm and I decided to go ahead with a lawsuit. The manager absolutely refused to give me any legal counsel contact information and after a while simply transferred me to human resources.

I left a message and called the Safe Auto customer service line and immediately asked to speak with the legal counsel, file a complaint and/or get the contact information for their legal counsel. To this date I have not received any letters or communication relating to their legal counsel (whether in-house or not).

After about a week I received a call from customer service at Safe Auto who told me that they would have to raise my auto insurance rates. He would not tell me why. I also asked him to notate my account that I wanted to speak with legal counsel and if he could give me that information so that I can get this process started. He again would not give me this information. As of 6/22/2009 I have not received any letters or communication relating to their legal counsel contact information.

You are in your own words "a senior legal assistant in a law firm..." I am going to assume that is a moderatly well paid job. Safe Auto is a "non-standard" insurance company that ONLY provideds the state minimum required liability limits, not to be confused with Comp/Coll which pays for damage to the vehicle you own. Safe Auto also provides Comp/Coll coverage but I am referring to liability limits in this post. The only people who purchase insurace from "non-standard" companies are those that have to. If you purchase auto insurance from Safe Auto one or all of the following would apply:

Almost certainly you have nearly no assets to protect, otherwise state required minimum liability limits would not be adequate. (20/40/15 in IL) I would think "a senior legal assistant in a law firm..." would have some assets to protect.

You would have violations on your driving record that would make you inelligible for coverage from a standard company, multiple tickets, dui/dwi, or the like any one could have that.

You would have a horrific credit history, I assume a "a senior legal assistant in a law firm..." would have to got through a background/Credit check but maybe I'm wrong.....I need to call my lawyer a make sure his legal team has been checked out I don't want some loser with bad credit handling my affairs.

Thats about covers reasons why you would buy insurance from a "Non-standard" Company. I've been in insurance for about 25 years, I am an independent agent for several large national "Standard" auto insurance companies. I have the utmost respect for Safe Auto, they have greatly reduced the number of uninsured drivers out there. They provide insurance to people that I could never, and for that mater would never take the risk to insure. So to all who read this supposed "RipOff" remember that this poster is allmost most certainly not telling the whole story, or is flat out lying. The Ohio Department of Insurance, the state where Safe Auto is headquarted is extreamly strict of insurance companies. I have conducted business in Ohio for 25 years and I can tell you this much, If their doing business in Ohio they are doing it by the book, no matter what state they are writing the policy in.

Thanks for reading
