I needed a Linksys driver.  Somehow i was redirected to Safecart who did a diagnosis of my computer and said that 22 of my drivers were out of date.  The machine is older so that seemed logical.   I (maybe foolishly) signed up for their service for $40 which granted a license for 10 computers (seemed like an oddly high number).  In order to activate the software you have to call a number so a technician can take over your computer and enter the number.  The technician then does all sorts of diagnostics which took almost 45 minutes.  At the end he tells you to contact Microsoft to fix a bunch of errors for a cost of nearly $400 which isn't a whole lot less than the cost of an entire computer these days.  given the amount of time he was in my computer I am highly suspicious he was hacking around gathering all manner of private information.  At one point he asked for my Zip code which also seems like an odd request.  Even if these guys are ligit the current atmosphere of potential fraud triggers all manner of alarms.  I hope I haven't given them the keys to the kingdom.
