I was sitting at my computer and I realized that my mother had not seen pictures from a wedding we recently attended. I had been given a website and a code to check them out and decided to show them to her. Immediately upon opening the webpage, I got a big warning about a Trojan virus and many other virus issues suddenly affecting my computer. I couldn't shut the page down or move to another. I was warned that I needed to purchase SECURE PRO ANTIVirus 2009 immediately. The screen said information was being taken from my computer because I was taking too long to make my decision. I tried to get rid of the screen and the virus program began downloading even as I tried to stop it. No matter what I tried I couldn't stop the process. I shut my computer down manually and never saw the program again. But as I was looking over my bank statement, I find two charges, $39.90 and $80.75 for products that related to Secure PRO ANTIVirus 2009.(ie, safecart.com (39.90) and CHRpay.com(80.75)) I NEVER authorized payment nor did I give out any information for purchase of this product. I reported the virus to the website of origin because I wanted them to know, but was told that there was no virus attached.

I called the number given on one of the reports this morning (thank you!) and the man I spoke to (from Russia, by the way!!) says I will be refunded the hopefully $80. I cannot get a hold of safecart, possibly due to holiday, but I have notified my bank and told them that if I do not get the refund by next Friday, I will file paperwork. How can this not be identity theft? I swear I provided no information and the program began downloading the moment I tried to shut it down. From then on, it was out of my hands.
