Safeguard Towing $425 impound/tow charge to my e-bike just bought for $755 Beaverton Oregon
The Emerald Place Apartment is always short of un-assigned free parking space for residents. I was visiting a friend with a newly boughtly $755 E-Bike from BestBuy and locked the E-Bike to a pole of a empty reserved parking lot that was usually vacant in last few days. Just Overnight the E-Bike was gone and calling the phone number on the pole and Safeguard Towing said they have it. They asked me to bring $425 cash or $435 if in credit card to take it back. It is not a car or a motor cycle, it is a Electric assissted bike. And they said the charge is the same. I think this is a real example of predatory towing.

Whoa... I think I'd involve police/judicial system in that one. 425$ for towing a bicycle?

Quite honestly, you seem to have known that the parking lot where you parked was "reserved." It matters not that a space isn't being used by a resident, whether now or a few days in a row. The point is that you are not allowed to park in those spaces, period. However, having said that, it does seem that the $425 is excessive if that was the price for one day.
