Complaint Review: Sage Roof & Residential

BEWARE OF THIS CONTRACTOR. I never write reviews, however the actions of this contractor are very egregious. I would seriously warn anyone against working with Eric Sage. In the Flathead Valley during the boom over the past few years, many inscrutable characters arrived and collected deposits from unsuspecting customers - keeping the deposit and never doing any work. Eric Sage appears to be one of these people. If you place a deposit with him - you are in risk of losing it.

l have built 3 home projects and worked with more than a hundred contractors. This is the first time I have had a Contractor refuse to do the work and keep my deposit. The deposit Eric Sage required was $17,300 for a full new roofing job: “to get onto the schedule and secure materials.” This was a large deposit, so I asked to meet Eric on site in late June 2024. Seemed like a nice guy and so I moved forward. That was the last time I had a verbal conversation with him. All future communication was by text and very sporadic on his part. I continued to ask when he was starting the project - always an excuse or no answer. After many texts from me, he delivered metal roof product and just dumped it on the site. No warning - he just dumped the product. Finally by September my house was almost done and I pushed to get the roof scheduled. Always friendly but persistent. He said next week…and then next week…then tomorrow…but tomorrow never came. Its important to note that there was never any contentious or aggressive exchanges. No anger just obfuscation and neglect on Eric’s part.

With winter quickly approaching, I had to keep asking “when.” Finally he emailed me in mid-October to say that he would not be doing the job and that the random materials he left on the site, was paid for by my deposit and I could go find another contractor! Although I tried repeatedly to reach him this was the last communication.

3 reputable roofers came out and all said that there was not enough product left to do even half the roof. One of them said that the materials were not worth even $5k. Also - none of the sizes were custom to my house and none of it made sense for the project. Its basically worthless.

I have noticed that most of his reviews that I depended on, are mostly older than 2 years. I would highly recommend that you steer clear of this Contractor.
